Do you need to find someone new as a gym partner?

Do you need to find someone who will motivate or train you to become better?

Download the app, Gymmie!

A couple of students at Old Dominion have come to the conclusion that having a gym partner can make a huge difference in getting yourself to the gym and staying motivated. As an athlete, I can say that it can be hard sometimes to make it to the gym, but with the motivation of another individual, it makes it easier to find time in the day to want to go to the gym to workout.

YES IT IS FREE.

Every college student loves the word free, so that makes it even better!
ODU Senior, Jack Chacon, came up with the idea for Gymmie last winter, after struggling to find a workout partner after he transferred here from Virginia Tech. After pitching the idea to fellow ODU senior Max Hall, the two began working on the project and pushed through the summer and early fall to get the initial version of the app ready

Workouts are better with a partner.

Everyone should always have a partner with them at the gym especially when you need a spotter to help spot you while lifting. The app helps you find a gym partner that is aiming for the same goals as you are, so you both are not total opposite into working out. The app will help you find someone who runs, lifts, cardio, etc. so it is not hard to find someone with the same workout as you.

Safety is always first.

The app will have a five-star rating on the partner that is selected for you. So if you come across someone who you think is out of your league for working out, you can switch partners. The team will also use the rating system to monitor any partners consistently being rated low, to catch any issues or problems that may be occurring. It is publicly viewed on the stars of rating, so you can be able to see if you would actually like them or not before working out. You are able to report someone as well if they come off as creepy or not doing what they are supposed to be doing. All of these are methods of helping ensure students safety on the app, but basic common safety practices are suggested when meeting up new people for workouts

Make it nationwide!

Help change the way ODU students find workout partners, by downloading Gymmie from the app store, and seeing which ODU students you match up with! The team plans on using this initial version of the app at ODU to test how students use the app, and discover what changes to include in their official launch set for this coming Spring semester.

Launch Date:

The Gymmie BETA will be launching on Wednesday, November 2nd on iPhone! Students at Old Dominion will have an early access to this beta version of the app that will let students workout at the SRC or University Village Gym! Don't forget to download it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
