As per my usual weekly routine, I went the movies last night to watch Geostorm. I couldn't help but notice while watching this action-packed disaster movie that the future it predicts couldn't be that far off from our own.

This contains a few spoilers, so if you haven't seen it yet stop right here, watch the movie and then come back and read this article.

1. Weaponizing global satellites.

This one is too easy. The government takes over the development of "Dutchboy" and it winds up destroying many countries. The Middle East is one of the first to be hit by drastic climate changes resulting in millions of deaths.

2. One World Government.

I'm sure that we've all seen this one coming for years now. In the movie, the Government is One World. Decisions for world issues are given a resolution by the agreement of the leaders of all the countries around the globe. Like one big conference call.

3. Horrendous weather conditions.

In the film, the reason for creating "Dutchboy" is because of the unforeseen weather conditions that happen. Droughts, floods, ice caps melting, heat waves and massive cold fronts. Global warming; we're headed in that direction.

4. Selfish Gain for one's benefit.

So in the movie, there is one member of the White House staff that is a big part in the disasters that happen because of his own greed. He wants to wipe entire countries off the globe and have America be the bright shining star that it once was in the 1940s. People with too much power have a tendency to let it go to their head.

5. Harmony around the globe.

Could this really happen? Could all nations get to a point of no wars and live in peace together? If the whole world was at stake? I would like to think so. A future with no wars. I would embrace this future for all of the humankind.

This may be one of the better predictions that this movie hints at. Instead of being at war constantly, the One World Government decides on peace and harmony. If we could wake up one day with no wars going on that would be a future that I would happily agree to.

6. Drastic advancements in science.

Could we really build an entire satellite system that could control the weather and keep the Global Warming from causing massive damage around the globe? A net of satellites spread all over Earth's atmosphere that controls the weather. Think of it, No more hurricanes, tornados, monsoons, drastic weather changes or melting ice caps. The weather would be in our control. If something started brewing it would be shut down within minutes of it being recognized by the satellite system.

Of course this is just a movie but it could it possibly be telling us of the future and what the world is headed towards?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
