Georgia suffered a painful 64-39 loss at home at the hands of the Missouri Tigers Wednesday night. The Bulldogs struggles to find their shooting touch, scoring only 14 points in the first half of play. This marks the lowest scoring outing for Georgia on the season.
There is just one game left in the season. The Bulldogs will face off against South Carolina (15-15) in Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks are tied for fourth in the SEC with Auburn.
The team rebounded with 25 points in the second period but it was nowhere near enough to keep them in the game. Georgia fell to 11-19 overall and 2-15 in the SEC.
Attendance was at 68 percent capacity for this game, with 7,180 fans in attendance.
No Bulldog scored in double figures. Georgia shot 25 percent overall on the night and 5 percent from three. The team also struggled with free-throws, going just 10-17 (58 percent).
Nicolas Claxton led the team with 9 points, 10 rebounds, a steal, and a block. Jordan Harris was the second leading scorer with 7 points, 3 rebounds, a steal, and a block. Harris has become one of the more reliable options on this Georgia team over the past month or so.
Harris is just a junior so he will be returning for one more season in Athens for the Bulldogs. With seniors Turtle Jackson, Derek Ogbeide, and E'Torrion Wilridge leaving after this season, there will be significant minutes and multiple starting spots up for grabs.
A new wrinkle has been thrown into the plans of the Bulldogs as former five-star recruit Rayshaun Hammonds underwent foot surgery Thursday.
Hammonds was the second leading scorer and rebounder for this Georgia team. He is expected to sit out the remainder of the season and rejoin the team as soon as he is ready to go.
Hammonds was expected to take on a much larger role this season but was plagued with inconsistency and often foul trouble. Next season, his junior season, will go a long way in testing his value to the team.
With one game left, Georgia will almost certainly be hungry for a hard-fought victory.
