Trusting An Unknown Future To Our Known God

It is better to trust in God than in the opinions of ourselves or others.

James 1:5-6 – "If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God's willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind."

When we think of the future, we often think of who we will become, of what we will do, and of who we want in our lives. But what happens when the future we desire is not the future that God desires? What if God has other plans for our future? Isn't that often what we as Christians quote? The verse Ephesians 3:20 where it states, "Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding, abundantly above all that we ask or think…"

Now let's be honest, when it comes to our futures the farthest thing from our mind is God. We think about what we want, and what we want to control. But what about God? What about the fact that His desire for us is more than our desire for ourselves. Our futures can be beautiful, and they can be bigger than us.

When God told me to trust Him with my future, I was confused and stunned. And often when people ask me what my future is, I draw a blank. I have no idea where I am going or what I will be doing. I use myself as an example because it is so easy to succumb to other people's opinions of our futures.

As we walk the landscape of our lives, and as God asks us to trust Him with our futures we must be okay with the fact that we do not know everything. We must be okay with the fact that our unknown futures are in the hand of our known God. God is who we put our trust in, not in ourselves and not in each other. So today sons and daughters trust your future to God. Let go of the fact that you do not have all the answers and allow the One who does to guide you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
