Getting Out Of A Funk Is Hard, But Here Are 9 Productive Activities To Get Going Again

It is just one step at a time.

This has been me recently. I don't want to leave my bed, all my motivation is depleted, and I am tired but not sleepy. Being unproductive is honestly making it worse and filling my head with awful self-deprecating thoughts. However, I need to stop leaning on a crunch and do something, anything, that gets me moving.

1. Do the dishes

Okay, maybe not that fast, but for some reason doing the dishes gives me the sense of completing a HUGE task. I do not know many people who enjoy doing the dishes, but seeing an empty sink is so refreshing.

2. Strech

I'm not saying yank out a yoga mat and do a 30 minute session, but bend down and touch your toes, or even move your arms around. Getting your blood flowing can make it a little easier to get out of bed.

3. Do something for just 10 minutes

Doing something for just minutes still gives you the feeling of getting something done. Who knows, maybe you'll even be able to surpass that 10 minute mark without even realizing it.

4. Skip Netflix

As comforting Netflix is, you can (and most likely will) fall in the loop of nonstop watching shows. While it feels good, it is often followed by fighting yourself on how you can be spending that time doing something productive.

5. Write

Whether it is through typing or traditional pen and paper, writing helps you to let things out, without having to feel like a burden to someone. Even when it comes to writing all the negativity surrounding you, you can always light it on fire for an oddly happy feeling from it.

6. Call someone

Skip the text message. Call your mom, dad, grandparent, brother, old roommate, someone and talk about anything. Even if you don't feel like leaving your dorm, having some human contact can be beneficial.

7. Go outside

Even if it is just opening your door and stepping outside for a little bit. Enjoy the wind in your hear and the smell of freshly cut grass. If your up to it, take a short walk.

8. Do some light reorganization

Changing a space, even if its small, can help boost your mood. And hey, even combining your two clean clothes pile on the floor counts.

9. Say something positive to yourself

You deserve it, you are amazing, and no one else, even yourself should be able to change that.

Life is not easy, it affects everyone differently, and that is okay. Take it one step at a time, no matter how small.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
