From Devastation is a band from California. With band interest spanning from After the Burial, Dragon Ball Z, to Michael Jackson, it’s easy to see why these guys are so laid back. “We love music. Writing it. Listening to it. As well as sharing it.... Our goal is to make music people would like to listen to and build a family around it.” You can find From Devastation on Facebook and Band camp. Happy Listening!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the name of your band? What's the origin of that name? Have you changed the band's name before?

We are called From Devastation, we got the name from the fact that we all come from bands that disbanded. We were formally called The Dharma Initiative.

Tell me a little bit about yourselves?

We are just 5 dudes that love metal, beer and barbequeing, hahaha.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

Djent, Deathcore, Hardcore.

Our influences are Meshuggah, Arcadia Libre, Slipknot, Deftones, DragonBall Z, After The Burial, All Misery, Bermuda, Caliban, Veil of Maya, Winds of Plague, Whitechapel, Michael Jackson etc.

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

We have known each other for quite a bit of time, except for Kevin, he's a new brother!

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

We formed in late 2014, the band was founded by drummer, Shane Mesa, and guitarists, Sergio Vega and Jose Lopez.

We all just have the same urge to play music and show it to the world.

Do you have a record label?

No, we are not part of anything of that sort.

What can you tell me about your instruments?

Our guitarists play Schecter brand guitars, our Bassist plays an SX Bass, and our drummer has a Pearl kit. We are all open to trying out new gear!

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

We have performed in Ceres, Modesto, Sonora, Turlock and Merced.

Sonora was our favorite venue to play, called The Gypsy Shack, we don't have a least favorite venue at the moment.

Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?

We have our 5 song set, and are currently working on a cover, Around The Fur by Deftones.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?

We all write, our songs are about our life experiences, this topic will probably change overtime, but at the moment, it is working for us.

Could you briefly describe your music-making process?

Guitars and Bass are usually first, then Drums and Vocals.

What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

We usually practice once or twice a week, a full band jam and a strings jam, we have limited time as we all have jobs and some of us have families.

How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?

Our writing is more complex now, when we first started, our writing wasn't as technical are it is now.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Our biggest challenge was member changes, we have all dread that, with any band out there really, it a matter of always coming to an agreement with one another.

What's your ultimate direction for your band? What would you want people to take away from your new music?

We would like to get a far reach with our music, do some tours and release merch!

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

Find people who are open minded, easy to get along with, but most importantly, have fun with it!

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?

Is there anyone you'd like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?

We would like to thank our family and friends for supporting us always!

Any last words?

Checkout our music, share it, and thanks Sammie for the interview!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
