Going to school near Boston is great and out-of-towners often ask me, "What are fun things to do in Boston?" I have decided to comprise a list of some fun things to do in the city! Enjoy!

1. Red Sox Games/Tours of Fenway

Getting to see the Sox play at Fenway is an amazing experience. Even for non-baseball fans, the ambiance at Fenway is unparalleled.

2. The Freedom Trail

Boston is home to America's history. The Revolutionary sites here are extraordinary. Whether or not you are a history buff, you can appreciate the sites on the Freedom Trail. See where that red line takes you!

3. Boston Common/Public Garden

These two areas neighbor one another and are great places to go for a walk, sit in the sun, or just people watch. You can see the state house, walk through fountains and flowers, and have access to stores and restaurants all from this quaint area. Not to mention see the Make Way for Ducklings statue.

4. Faneuil Hall

This area is a great spot to spend the day! There are countless shops, candy stores (Ghirardelli is my personal favorite), restaurants, and views all from this one area! The signature cobblestone streets blanket Faneuil Hall, allowing Boston's historic architecture to stand out. The Hard Rock Cafe and Holocaust Memorial are right next door to this hot spot.

5. The Aquarium

The New England Aquarium is a great place for anyone of all ages! Right on the sea port, the aquarium captures the essence of the ocean. Fully equipped with an iMAX theatre and ray and shark touch tank, the aquarium is a fantastic way to spend the day.

6. Seaport Boulevard Area

One of my favorite summertime pass-times is walking around the harbor. It is so relaxing to sit in the sun and watch the boats come in and out and seeing the planes take off. Maybe spend the evening on the Spirit of Boston!

7. The MFA, Museum of Science, Children's Museum

Boston is full of museums, all of which are fascinating. The MFA is a great place to see incredible art work. The Museum of Science is full of interactive exhibits. The Children's Museum is a great place to bring the young one's and let them run around. All of these indoor spots are great for a rainy day.

8. Duck Boats

Not just for parading our championed athletes, right outside the Museum of Science, you can catch a ride on these iconic Boston tours! Duck boat rides are wicked fun ways to see the city and cruise in the Charles!

9. Newbury Street

Walking around Newbury street is a fun day out. There are so many stores to window shop around, and so many restaurants. Boston Burger Company is a hot spot on Newbury Street, but be prepared to wait an hour or two!

10. The Pru

Similar to Newbury Street, the Pru is a cool spot to grab an ice cream at Cold Stone, shop around, or take photos by the fountains. Dining at The Top of the Hub on the roof the the Prudential has views unlike anywhere is Boston!

11. Fire and Ice

This is a favorite spot of mine. This restaurant is most notable for the ambiance and unique style of cooking!

12. The North End

Take a trip to the North End for some authentic Italian food. Walk in anywhere and you are guaranteed to hit a hot spot. You can settle the Mike's vs Modern debate yourself and try the infamous cannoli!

13. The Feasts

June-August, the North End hosts the feasts - most notable the Feast of the Madonna. Walk around the streets of Boston, tasting a variety of foods and desserts, and immerse yourself in Italian music and culture.

14. The BSO

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is an incredible coalition of musicians. If you're ever in town, particularly around Christmas time or Independence Day, come see this talented group!

15. The Wang and Hanover Theatre

These are just two of several theatres in Boston where you can catch a great concert or show! The theatre district is a fun place to visit and witness incredible talent!

16. Bruin's Game

Getting to see the B's in action is a real treat! The Garden is an iconic spot you have to experience!

17. Celtic's Game

Again, anytime you have the chance to see Boston teams in action, do it.

18. Dinner

Head on over to East Boston to dine at the original Santarpio's pizzeria. Or stop by Regina's in the North End! Dress it up and head to Abe and Loui's. Any restaurant in this great city is amazing. You will not be disappointed!

Whether you're visiting for the day or staying the week, there is so much to do in this incredible, historic city! You will never leave disappointed. From the food to the history to the culture, Boston is an exceptional city to visit!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
