Here’s what drives Frost Murphy as an athlete and entrepreneur

A 9-5 job is not cut out for everyone. While most people follow the norm and pick up a job in the field of their interest, some people want to create a path of their own. A traditional job might give you the security you need, but it might not necessarily satisfy your soul and let you explore your full potential. Especially if you have multiple areas of interests and don't want to give up on any.

Such is the case of Frost Murphy. He is a serial entrepreneur, major philanthropist and a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu expert. Murphy has been an entrepreneur since an early age. He started his career in the real estate business was on a team that closed 200 home transactions a year. While Frost was flipping houses and closing deals, he also decided to learn Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and became a part of America's first generation of Black Belts in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Murphy also partnered with his coached and has opened multiple schools that teach Brazilian Jiu-jitsu along with other types of Martial Arts. At Elite MMA, he's also helped many of his students in their personal transformations. One of his first students signed up because her husband abused her and her children so she wanted to protect herself and teach her children how to defend themselves while gaining the confidence to make a change in her marriage. Murphy's teachings have not only helped thousands of people look good, feel good but it has also helped them defend themselves in times of danger.

But that's not all that Murphy has achieved. The serial entrepreneur that he is, he has built successful ventures in real estate, oil and gas along with the fitness industry. While he juggles with his multiple business ventures and Brazilian Jujitsu, he also believes in working towards helping the underprivileged and terminally ill. He is the Vice Chairman of the Heart Gift Foundation and the Chairman of Mission Committee. They provide lifesaving heart surgery to children with terminal heart defects. They bring the kids to the USA and also fly surgeons to these children's home countries so that they can receive care locally.

He is also on the Governing Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Community Foundation, the Chairman of Next Gen Steering Committee and he also serves on the community board of Kick-start Kids. You might think that Murphy has his hands full with all his businesses and his commitment to various global and local non-profits, but Murphy says that he has enough time to spend with his adorable little kids and even go fishing once a week. In fact, Murphy holds the record for catching the largest rainbow trout in Texas!

Murphy is an extremely practical man who believes that hardworking and talented people are always rewarded. "I like 100% commission jobs. If you do a good job, you get paid well, if you do a poor job, you do not. I punched a clock one summer in college and quickly realized this was not for me," Murphy said. "I am a very happy and fulfilled man and very grateful for my situation and to all the people that have helped me along the way" he added.

We all have passions and hobbies but we never find time to pursue them. The risk involved with entrepreneurship is not for everyone, but this man is a great example of one who took actions consistent with his dreams and is currently fulfilling on them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
