"Why do you watch that trash?"
"You know the Kardashians are so fake right like I don't get why you idolize them."
"Does this really entertain you? Watching these women argue and make money doing so?"
Yeah, this is all too familiar with me. Obviously, I know this isn't what real life is, and yes I can't stop myself from watching. I am constantly scanning TV channels for a new juicy show to get hooked on. Are the girls acting uber trashy and fighting? Probably. Am I going to keep watching? You bet your bottom dollar I am. There's something about women fighting like children that amuses and entices me.
I can't be the only one who feels this explainable urge to watch these shows over and over again, anxiously waiting for season finales and premieres, and spin offs. Their lives become a part of mine, and once I'm involved there's no turning me around.
My life isn't very riveting, I'm not married to a big shot plastic surgeon or born into any money that I lavishly spend on heels and hand bags left and right. I'm a college student just floating through life, maybe experiencing some sort of drama here and there, looking for something to take my mind off of the possibility of failing a class. Yes, I turn to "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" to avoid my problems at times, and yeah, that's a lot better than certain alternatives, like drinking or recreational drugs like many of my fellow students do.
Don't sit there and berate me for my choices because I certainly don't want to take the time to berate yours. You probably guiltily watch The Bachelor while your roommate is out. These women are more than just the fighting. Many of them have actual careers and run businesses and slay while doing so.
Let's take Lisa Vanderpump. She works hard to protect persecuted pooches day and night, while running multiple successful businesses, as well as being a devoted mother and wife to her family and employees. Through The Real Housewives franchise, we're exposed to how devoted these women are to their families as well as businesses. They don't just lie around trying to pick fights, so stop assuming that's all they do.
Obviously, I fantasize about what life would be like if I were in their shoes, or should I say heels, but I think I prefer my much more relaxed life, and enjoy living theirs with them through my laptop screen.
We're all obsessed with things, and one of mine happens to be Reality TV. Sorry, not sorry.
