Friendships Should Be About Quality Not Quantity

I never grew up with huge friend groups and always had a few really good friends. I always dreamed of having a huge friend group, but now I know why quality is so much better than quantity.

Friendships Should Be About Quality Not Quantity

When I chose to go six hours away from home for college, I was ready to start over. I wanted a new beginning with all new faces and no one from my past. In high school, I had very few friends and the majority of my friends were on my cheer team and did not even go to school with me. Some even lived up to an hour away from me.

I knew there had to be a new and different life out there for me. So, I chose my dream school Kentucky six hours from my hometown in Illinois. I dreamed of college being this place where I finally got that strong group of girls, I craved for. I figured it would be so easy to find it. Little did I know I was wrong.

All my life I have always been a little shy and self-guarded, but I knew in college I needed to be more outgoing and open minded. However, I am also one who takes friendships very seriously I do not just let anyone in. College was a dream and has been a dream, but I still, every day, did not understand why I was someone who always had the smallest group of friends. It took to me to where I am now in life to realize that I cherish the quality of friends I have over the number of friends I have.

The people I have in my life may be few, but they are the most amazing people and they have helped me get to places I never imagined.

I advise you to choose quality over quantity when it comes to friendships. These friendships will be the ones who last past high school and past college graduation. Choosing the people who choose you back is more rewarding. Choosing the people who push you to be more than just average. I can wish and hope for a big group of girlfriends all I want but in reality, I got my girl group in the end. Although the numbers may be small, they are the ones who teach me to be a better version of myself every day. They are the ones who get me out of my comfort zone. For them, I will always be forever grateful. Cherish the life you are given. Instead of waiting around hoping and wishing for aspects of your life. Look around see what you have and hold those ones close. They will be the ones who get you farther in life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
