My Thoughts To My Best Friend Who Lives In Ohio

Sometimes long-distance is hard, but when your friendship is stronger you can conquer anything.

Dear Best Friend,

If you’re reading this, then you know who you are. I hope you know how proud I am that you have gone so far despite being miles away from home.

Long distance friendships aren’t supposed to work right, not even when we've known each other since kindergarten? Well, we proved that wrong! Despite being away from each other for 3 months followed by a brief visit and then being away from each other for another 2 months, our friendship has never faded.

Between getting into a fight over shoelaces, writing conversations on the desk in chemistry, bribing our teacher’s daughters with coloring books and color pencils for a project, and working on the Addams Family the Musical. It was never a dull moment between us.

When you told me that you got accepted to Cedarville University, I was so happy, but I was also sad (yes, an Addams Family Musical pun). I was so happy because you got accepted into your dream school, which you worked so hard to get into. I was also sad because Cedarville is in Ohio 800 miles away and that meant I wouldn’t be seeing you as much. However, the excitement you had faded away from my sadness.

The “Final Departure” was sad and bittersweet. We never thought it would never come, but it came faster than lightning. The day you left I was in class and I remember you sending me pics of Cedarville. When you sent those pics, I knew you found your home, and I could not have been any happier for you.

Despite being 800 miles away, we talked whenever we could and it felt like we were 10 miles away. We always made a point to at least speak to each other once a week at the minimum. For example, a screenshot of our video chat.

Even with the distance, I can still talk to you about anything, good or bad. Thank you for always being there when I needed you.

You're a crazy fun-loving person, and I know you will get far in life. You're always nice even to people, even when some of them don't deserve your kindness. You're the person who puts everyone else first even when you have own struggles.

Your self-confidence is amazing. You never cared about what people had to say you did what you wanted (insert your sass). Just know your attitude will get you far in life.

I can't wait to see what the future hold for you!

Thank you for 15 years of friendship and I look forward to many more years. I look forward to being old and you start acting like Granny Addams.

Also, one last thing if you need anything. I'm only 1 phone call away. I love you amiga.

From Georgia to Ohio, our friendship never fades.

Sincerely,

Your crazy best friend of 15 years.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
