7 Life lessons 'Friends' Has Taught Me

PSA: This article does revival the very end of the show. So please keep that in mind! I would hate to ruin your viewing pleasure.

I just recently finished the entire ten seasons of Friends... for the second time. During my freshman year at Washington State, I like every college student would either watch Netflix when studying for exams or homework was done. Growing up I would watch Friends on Nick at Night. But I had never watched the show in its whole entirety. While I was in my freshman year, there had been rumors of Netflix removing Friends from their lists of shows to watch. So being the young adult I was, I decided to take matters into my own hands and started to watch the Friends season. I was immediately addicted! My friends always thought I was funny for watching it at all hours of the day. Friends helped me a lot that freshman year, gave me a good laugh or two and taught me some lessons about friendship.

1. “What if I don’t want to be a shoe?”

Giphy

All of Rachel's life she felt as if she had to just be a 'shoe' feeling though she hadn't changed her whole life, she talks to her dad about what if she doesn't want to be a 'shoe' anymore. In this episode she is young and isn't ready to settle down and marry Barry, her fiancé. She wants to go out on her own. She ends up moving into her high school friend's apartment in New York City instead of marrying her fiancé. Rachel finds herself and learns what it's like becoming an adult and not relying on her parents or her fiancé. Don't let anyone put you in a box.

2. Life changes are possible.

Giphy

Monica grew up a 'fat kid' after high school she went on a diet and lost massive weight. Despite the fact she became a chef she continued to keep her weight off.

3. Your life can be hard, but things will get better.

Giphy

Phoebe lost her mom to suicide when she was just a kid. From then on she lived on the streets for a while. Those who have sad pasts can push passed those hardships and focus on the future and the better things to come.

4. Sarcasm can be the answer to things, especially if you're Chandler Bing.

Giphy

Chandler wasn't always the best at comforting others or by giving advice, but he sure was good at giving a different outlook on things with sarcasm especially when rough times would hit.

5. HOW YOU DOIN'?

Giphy

Joey was always cracking jokes and was sure to make me laugh. Using his catchphrase on every girl he had the chance to.

7. Never let anyone steal your thunder!

Giphy

Monica and Chandler are finally engaged! They get caught making out waiting to get champagne to celebrate the engagement. Catching Ross and Rachel making out outside their door.

6. Ross and Rachel are iconic.

Giphy

Ross and Rachel are one of the most famous TV couples. From being together to being on a break then back together, throughout the entire lifetime of Friends Ross and Rachel were off again on again. In the final seasons, Ross and Rachel have a baby, Emma. They decide to strictly be parents and to not get personal, that of course doesn't work out so well. After ten amazing seasons, Ross and Rachel end the show back together.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
