Multiple news sources online have been reporting that the show "Friends" will be leaving Netflix on January 1, 2019. This sudden news sent the internet into revolving door of sadness this past week.
But you can relax for now because a tweet sent out yesterday by Netflix's official Twitter account confirmed that they are not parting ways with the show just yet. Whew.
Over the past week fans of the show were panicking over the false reports that Netflix was going to cancel the show after four years on the streaming network,
GoFundMe.org and Change.org pages were launched begging Netflix to keep the title, and money was even raised to try and save the show. Fans were calling the removal, "unacceptable and even cold-blooded".
Lots of athletes and celebrities were even campaigning for the show to stay. University of Georgia cornerback Eric Stokes Jr. even chimed in with his opinion.
The false reports seemed to be believable as Warner Bros. is apparently going to launch their own streaming service and discontinue their popular titles on Netflix. Many sources speculated that Friends was going to one of those shows.
Netflix bought the rights to Friends in 2014 paying NBC $118 million for the rights to air all 10 seasons. The streaming service also digitally remastered every episode so the viewer could stream in high-definition. The once forgotten '90s hit sitcom was introduced to a whole new generation when it resurged on Netflix 4 years ago.
So for the next couple weeks you don't have to binge watch all 230 episodes because it seems that for the time being Friends is going nowhere.
