5 Ways To Know If You've Got A Friend For Life

Just this past week I got together with one of my best buddies from high school for some Italian food and some shopping. We've known each other since we were 13 years old, and have hung out ever since. As I sat down to lasagna with this friend, I realized how lucky I was to have a person that I could always relax and have fun with, no matter how long we've been apart. I realized what a special thing it was to have such a good friend, and how effortless it was.

Maybe you have a big group of friends, or maybe just a few special people. Either way, friends are with you through the good times, and stick with you through the bad times. Sometimes friendships go awry or end completely, but sometimes, you make a friend that will be in your life forever. Here are 5 ways to know if you've got a keeper.

1. The conversation never drags

Sometimes if you're with someone, you just don't know what to say. You've talked about your day, your favorite music, your dogs, and then there's just…. Silence. If you've got a best friend, the conversation is effortless. No awkward pauses for you.

2. They tolerate your stupid jokes

A good sense of humor is a good quality for anyone to have. But when it comes to your best friend, sharing a sense of humor is absolutely crucial. If you can't tell your friend the weirdest and stupidest jokes you have, they are not the one.

3. They're there for you on the bad days

There are a lot of people who will stand by you at your best, but will be gone at your worst. A best friend will be there to pick you up when you're down, and will always be there for you when you need them.

4. There is no competition

If you find yourself competing with another person, I can tell you right now, you are not going to have a healthy and long-lasting friendship. Both people need to be on the same team, and root for each other just as much as they would root for themselves. This can be hard, but it is so important.

5. You like to do the same things

Having a best friend is all about having fun! If you prefer being a couch potato and you have a friend who would rather be skydiving or bungee jumping, it might be hard for you to make plans. Try to find someone who is into the same things as you, that way you can both have fun at the same time.

Well, these are all the tips I've got. If you've found a person where all of these things are true, you have a winner!!!!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
