Wanna be a music junkie? Want all your friends and family always turn to you for music recommendations? Well, I can teach you how. I am a music junkie (one of the better addictions to have), but boy it does consume your life. I spend hours Spotify deep diving for the most underground of bands, I have 20 completely different playlist that are all at least 10 hours long.
That is not an exaggeration.
I am constantly looking for new music to listen to, I have the dates of album releases from my favorite bands memorized and I always look out for new bands.
Being a music junkie is a commitment you must make. You have to always have your eyes at the record store. You have to be prepared and be there for your friends when they need a new band recommendation or need that perfect album for their mood or to set the mood *winky face*.
To become a music junkie you have to truly dedicate your time. Set a day aside to be searching for new artists. You have to stay updated on your favorites, mark the dates their releasing new songs and albums on your calendar.
To do all of this you have to have the best platform for your searches. Music Roamer is a great website to get recommendations on new bands. You just search one band and it'll give you a web of suggestions that you can just build on. It's super rad.
You can also keep up with music magazines. I think this is a great way to keep in touch with all genres, rather than just your favorites. I suggest Pitchfork. A big part of being a music junkie is to keep your mind open. Of course you can have your favorite genres, but it's important to listen to all different types of music. You might be surprised by the stuff you end up liking.
Obviously, streaming sites are a great way to get your music too. Like I said before, Spotify is basically my wife. She's expensive, but she has always come through for me and I love her. Spotify has the perfect recommendations. From "related artist" on every artist page, making you Discover Weeklys and Release Radars and more, Spotify has your back. I wouldn't be the junkie I am today if it wasn't for her.
Last but not least when it comes to finding new music, you can always listen to the radio. I know this may be hard to wrap your head around, but it does work sometimes.
Now, to get your friends to trust you and your music taste, you have to trust theirs first. Talk to them, listen to them, know what they like *winky face*. This is important, knowing the type of music your friends like can really expand your taste and help you find more artist and genres you like. The more you like, the deeper the addiction gets, the more you can find and suggest to your friends.
The last step of being a music junkie is to be extremely caffeinated all the time.
I'm just kidding, you don't have to do that, that's just if you want more issues like constant severe dehydration, like me.
Being addicted to music is the type of lifestyle I suggest for everyone. There is nothing more rewarding than the people you love telling you that you have great taste in music and always coming to you for recommendations.
