We walked into that dorm on the first day wide-eyed and unsure. We were strangers and expected to live together, it was scary. But from those little wide-eyed strangers, we became still wide-eyed women who also became best friends.
It started with us just passing one another on the way to classes or the dining halls, we found our groups of friends. But as time passed we started eating together and realizing that we had more in common than we had thought. We were both from South Florida, growing up only 45 minutes away from one another. As different as we seemed from one another we were crazy similar.
So, the random dinners with one another turned into most dinners together and daily Starbucks trip. We soon shared a love for those Starbucks trips and even added target trips to our daily trips. We had classes together, sitting in the back laughing the whole class became one of my fondest memories. We dyed hair in the sinks of the dorms and stayed up late laughing about nothingness. But through all that, we both gained a best friend, someone who no matter what was going to be there.
You became the person that was there for me through it all, when I needed someone to help me escape you there to come with me, you were there when I met the boy who would become the love of my life, you were the only one telling me to go for it, that he was what I needed. You knew me better than I knew myself, you were there to support me through it all. Without you, I don’t know where I would be right now. We moved apart but always make time for one another, whether it’s the ranting Facetime calls or our trips to the mall and target.
Even to this day, three years later you’re the still the one I turn to whenever there is any type of news, good or bad. We’ve been there for one another through it all, from the bad boyfriends to the joys of getting new pets. We have seen each other grow and have helped one another grow. I know that because of that random room assignment I gained a best friend for life. So, thank you for helping me become who I am today and helping me stay sane through all the craziness of college.
