It's hard to believe that I'm over a month into my college career. My last month as a Bear has been full of laughter, tears, homework, and reading. It's been a blur of a month and I've met so many people, done so many new things, and learned even more.
1. Cancelled classes are either the best or the worst thing.
Most of the time it's the best, but every once in a while you were really depending on that extra lecture to remind you what top-down psychology is.
2. Maroon will eventually make up my entire wardrobe.
20% off Touchdown Tuesday might just be the death of me.
3. Campus really isn't that confusing.
It only takes a couple days staring at a map to get your BEARings.
4. There are SO many people.
It's almost impossible to get to any public event on campus.
5. Professors are human.
I've heard my entire life how strict, mean, and not understanding professors are. It's all false. They understand that family emergencies, technical issues, and mental health days all happen. If you communicate with them they normally will be pretty cool about the whole deal.
6. Always carry a charger with you.
It happens quick. One moment you're at 90% and the next you're functioning on fumes. Don't get caught with a low battery.
7. Use the buddy system.
Whether it's a trip to CVS, the bathroom, or to the parking lot. There's safety in numbers.
8. The party scene isn't for everyone.
I'm definitely not into that scene and that's okay. But some are, and that's okay too.
9. Making friends is hard.
Would it help if I tried to start a conversation?
10. My advisor is a life-saver.
Seriously, anytime anything mildly weird happens you can find me shooting her an email. And nine out of ten times she has the answer.
11. Clif Smart is even nicer in person than he is in videos.
#GoClif
12. BearWear Fridays are the best.
Fridays are for the Bears (so are Saturdays).
13. Almost every day is a BearWear day.
Maroon is pretty easy to find on campus on any day.
14. College might not be the best time of my life.
And that's okay. I haven't given up on it of course, but the reality of it has definitely hit.
15. ALL of the staff members are nice.
Everyone is so nice it's unreal. From Janitors to the Dean, I've never met a mean staff member.
16. Do the reading.
Even if it feels like you're going to die. You won't pass the class without doing the reading.
17. Use a planner.
Don't just have one, use it like a religion. Color-code, write everything down, do count-downs to due dates. Whatever it takes. My planner is my life-line.
18. Take a late/early lunch if you want to eat in the PSU.
The lines are almost as bad as the seating.
19. The Bearline is the way to go.
Less walking= A Happy camper
20. You don't regret spending big bucks on a good pair of walking shoes.
It's okay that the worst thing I do is spend a lot of money on my tennis shoes.
21. The Library is the place I feel most like a scholar.
Nothing makes me feel better about what I'm doing than sitting down and working really hard surround by people doing the same thing.
22. Some days just require tears.
It's normal to cry three days a week, right?
23. The first month is a lot rougher than they said it would be.
It's not all TV and books cracked it up to be.
24. But it will be okay.
I just know things will get better and in a semester I'll be singing a whole new tune.
25. Boys still don't matter.
They haven't really changed much even though it's a whole new pool of people. Boys don't matter and when one suppose to, he will.
26. The John Q. Hammons fountain is the best spot to read, get some fresh air, and catch some rays.
Also to eat lunch at.
27. Always carry sunglasses.
Even on the rainy days.
28. Bearing Up is an everyday ordeal
And every time it's a fun as it was the first time.
29. If you smile at people, 99% of the time they'll smile back.
The students are about as nice as the staff.
30. Being a Bear is the best thing I've ever done.
I will never forget the feeling after orientation when I realized I was finally an MSU Bear.
31. MSU is exactly where God wants me.
It's not been easy or all fun, but I've never been surer of anything in my life.
