A Letter To My Freshman Roommate
Mason Moorefield

When preparing to go away to college, finding the perfect roommate can be exciting, but at times, stressful. You are looking for someone who is similar to you. Someone who has the same interests, same cleaning habits, and same routine as you. When I was searching for a roommate three years ago at this time, not only did I find the perfect roommate, but I found an even better friend

To my roomie who was there for me for anything and everything freshmen year, I can never thank you enough for all of the things you did for me. God knew what he was doing when he placed you in my life because he knew that I was going to need someone with a kind and loving heart and someone who was going to be there for me during my freshmen year.

Thank you for listening to me complain about being homesick, thank you for being a shoulder to cry on when I missed my dad at night. Thank you for always finding a way to make me laugh and be happy. Thank you for the random car rides and jam sessions, the spontaneous Mexican dates, ordering pizza late at night with me, and the list goes on and on. Thinking back to some of the times we had and the things we laughed about until our stomachs hurt puts a huge smile on my face.

We never had a single fight or argument. Thanks for being someone that I could trust with anything and I am also glad you had enough trust in me to dye your hair that one time! Having you as a roommate made a year that felt like hell, so much better. You have a pretty amazing family too!

We don't talk as much today, but we still keep in touch. I love seeing all of the wonderful things that you are doing in life, but sometimes I wish you were still here at Longwood so we could keep making those amazing memories! You are rocking life and I am so proud of you!

I could thank you for so much more, but then I would be talking for days. Thank you for being one of my dearest friends and thank you for the wonderful memories.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
