Starting college is a crazy feeling. I can remember playing Webkinz while eating fruit snacks like it was yesterday (oh wait, that was yesterday). Regardless, one of the most important steps when it comes to starting school is moving into your dorm. There is so much to think about when moving in for the first time: what to bring, how to organize your room, how to transport everything, the list goes on and on. This overwhelming and new process can leave you feeling a lot of #feels, but Andy Dwyer from "Parks & Recreation" can totally relate.
Packing and buying dorm/school supplies becomes a foreign concept.
What is a "suitcase"? Where do you buy highlighters? You don't even know how you're going to fit your entire closet on an airplane and if you will even have space in your dorm for all this.
Freaking out because you feel like you're forgetting something.
It's so easy living at home because all of your things are there. Moving yourself half way across the country means you are bound to forget something you might end up needing. Thank God for UPS.
The last minute Target run before you hit campus.
Target: The place where you go in for five things and leave with 20. It's essential to stop at Target before you move in, but it probably won't matter since you won't buy what you actually need. Those flat screen TVs in the back are SUCH a distraction.
Meeting the roomies for the first time...
The excitement from talking over GroupMe all summer has built up to this climactic moment when you finally see the people you will be living with for the next year.
...and seeing your dorm room for the first time.
Fitting all of the stuff you hauled out to school in your converted triple is like a life-size puzzle that gradually expands throughout the year (especially when there are sales at the bookstore).
Moving your dorm furniture around and unpacking everything.
Loft and hang and push and lift and repeat!
Having a mini-fridge and microwave IN YOUR ROOM.
When you can reheat your leftover pizza without leaving your bed #goals.
Having to share a room with other students.
This is where learning **boundaries** come into play. Easier for some than for others.
Mom wanting to take a picture of you in your home away from home.
Don't worry! April gets the struggle, too.
Saying goodbye to your parents.
Nothing can prepare you or your parents for saying goodbye once you are moved in. It can be hard at first, but it is only temporary. Parents weekend is right around the corner! As Andy once said, "Just remember, every time you look up at the moon, I, too, will be looking at the moon. Not the same moon, obviously. That’s impossible.” It's like you never left home in the first place. Good luck to college freshman on move-in day, and remember, Andy is always on your side.
