Don't Be Afraid Of The Freedom Of Movement
Chris Osmond

If you've clicked on this article, chances are you're wondering what I mean by freedom of movement. In short, freedom of movement is the ability to move your body in whichever way you want. You can do this through, sports, yoga, surfing, or skiing, but one thing remains the same. You are pushing your body beyond mundane daily life. You're trying new things and challenging your body.

You start to learn what feels good, and through this movement, you start to find yourself. With exercise, you can sometimes find yourself stuck in a routine with one goal, whether that be losing weight and or gaining muscle. In this way, freedom of movement is different than your standard exercise. This is working your body and doing what feels right, without the confines of a strict routine or plan. You're simply moving your body in whichever way feels best, and no matter the activity, if you're practicing freedom of movement, you'll one day end up lost in the action. The trials and tribulations of everyday life fade away until you're no longer thinking about what's going on in you're life. Instead, you're focused on this all consuming activity called the freedom of movement.

I understand that this may sound far fetched, but you've probably experienced this freedom at least once in your life. Let's say you're out on a run and all the sudden you're just focused on moving your legs and breathing in and out. Suddenly, you've made it a few miles without even realizing it. Or let's say, you're in a yoga class and during breathing exercises, you are consumed by the rising and falling of your chest. No outside distractions like thinking about work or school enter your mind. You've suddenly lost yourself in this movement.

The thing about this experience is that it's so therapeutic that you find yourself lost in the movement. Later, you feel calmer, more at peace with the world around you. It's the type of experience that never compares to anything else. Whether you find this on a ski slope, in the waves, or even just out on a walk, you still end up with the same result, you become calm and focused.

Everyday life as humans can be stressful at times, but having an outlet, a way to lose yourself and forget about the world around you allows your mind time to process situations in your life. Because sometimes, actively thinking about something just creates anxiety and stress, not solutions. Giving yourself times for freedom of movement may be something that many of us do not actively seek out, but when we find it, we become addicted. Just like drugs or alcohol take away the pain of everyday life by making you forget, so does freedom of movement, and it's a much safer way to allow your brain time to process and decompress.

So, if you haven't yet found your way to experience freedom of movement, try something new. Change your approach to working out, use this time for yourself to not only benefit your body but your mind as well. Do your best to use this time of movement to focus on only that action. You'll become a better, calmer, and more well balanced person because of it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
