Free Spirit Spheres

A definite bucket list item.

British Colombia is a beautiful province in western Canada. With many culturally rich areas and incredible scenery all year round, it is a must see.

Last month I went on a trip with my mom to visit my uncle in Victoria British Colombia. A few days into our trip my mom and I took a little excursion up north. We spent one night in the Free Spirit Spheres, near Qualicum Beach. It was the best experience of the trip, second only to surfing in Tofino, of course. The Free Spirit Spheres are essentially spherical pods suspended in between trees, equipped with a bed, seating areas, and a sink. There are three different pods on the property; Eve, Eryn and Melody. It doesn't sound like much but the experience was just so amazing.

When we arrived one of the employees joked about how we would want separation therapy before leaving, I laughed this off and thought he was just being silly. However, he was right. I didn't want to leave, not even to go get food. The place was just serene and incredibly peaceful. The cell phone service was very limited which made it just a "stop and smell the roses" kind of place. The first thing that wowed me was the incredible attention to detail. The guest books in each pod had stories and notes left by the other visitors and speakers installed into the pods for music or movies.

There was all sorts of hand painted rocks scattered around the property.

If I looked out the window in my pod I could see this little guy reading in the forest.

Each bathhouse had the pod's name hand painted on it.

The bathhouses are beautiful with wood interiors, heating and really nice showers.

The outhouses located by the base of the pod were painted white and supplied with pencil crayons and sharpeners. The purpose of this was to get visitors to doodle in them. Every year the outhouses are painted over to start fresh. The details in these drawings in particular are mind blowing.

There was a beautiful nature walk recommended to us by the owners. It was a walk up a river where salmon spawn. Unfortunately for us, we were a few weeks too early but it still made for an amazing walk.

The most amazing part had to be the overall feel. The pods are situated around a natural pond, with birds and fish. Amazingly the entire area is left as natural as possible. The attention to detail is amazing-- you can walk along the same path 100 times and every time notice something new. Free Spirit Spheres is a magical place that shows through respect and understanding humans and nature can coexist simultaneously.

Free Spirit Spheres are a definite must visit. Something to add to any bucket list. An experience too amazing to fully put into words. Everything about this environment is magical.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
