4 Ways To Make The Most Out Of Your Day
Rachel Budke

Life is precious, short and unexpected. We never know when our last moment will be, when our worst moment will be and when our best moment will be. Life often becomes a routine that we get stuck in. We get up in the morning, grab a cup of coffee and eat the same boring breakfast. We read the newspaper or articles online and then go to class, work or whatever it is we have to do. We come home, eat dinner, finish our responsibilities and then go to bed. We wake up in the morning and start everything back over again, just doing the same thing we did yesterday. That's why it's important to remember that each day is a blessing and can be used for something special. Don't let yourself get caught in the cycle of life. Make sure you live and take full advantage of every single day. In order to do that, here are four ways to make the most of your day.

1. Remember that positivity is key

It's easy to get stuck in a rut and allow negative thoughts to take over your mind. Honestly, a lot of what you believe is all your attitude. You think it'll go badly, it'll probably go badly. Allow yourself to believe that everything will work out the way you want it to. Tell yourself you'll get a lot done today. Tell yourself that you are healthy and happy. The more you tell yourself, the more likely it is to happen. Wake up telling yourself it'll be a good day because chances are it will be.

2. Remember that time is precious

Remind yourself that today is a new day. You don't know what today will hold. The worst excuse to tell yourself is, "I'll do it tomorrow." Why put something off when you can do it today? Make the most out of today instead of allowing yourself to get caught in a cycle of tomorrow's. Right now is the only time we're guaranteed, so why not now?

3. Be Spontaneous

It's easy to get caught up in a routine if you're doing the same things every day. In order to make the most out of your day and make sure you're not stuck in the phases of life, do something new. Try to be spontaneous. Go out and do something fun that you've always wanted to. Usually stay in? Go out. Want a tattoo? Go get one. Want to take a weekend trip? Plan one with friends. Try to do something new in order to make the most out of each and every day.

4. Be Friendly

In a funk, it's easier to allow your emotions to be dimmed. You're not as happy, not as friendly and not as loving. Make sure to remind yourself every day to try to make someone happy; whether it be a stranger, a friend or a loved one. It's easy to forget that strangers surrounding you have their own lives, too. They have struggles, disappointments, problems, loves and bad days. In order to make the most out of your day, remind yourself to smile at the person walking down the street or to help your elderly neighbor with their groceries. You're day will be better if you make someone else's day better, too.

It's easy to get caught up in the boring routine of every day and to just do the movements instead of actually living. However, I do believe these four things will help you make the most out of your day. The more you put into every day, the more you get out of it. You'll be back to cherishing each day as its own instead of trucking on just to get over it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
