Packing for college is quite the ordeal, even if you've done it multiple times. I was actually out-of-state the week before classes started, and I got back just in time to pack and leave home. As such, it was almost inevitable that I would forget something, or, as it turned out, five somethings.
1. Coffee mugs

I woke up Monday morning and went to make myself some coffee with my Keurig. I opened up the cabinet to grab a mug and, to my dismay, there weren't any! I frantically searched for anything I could put hot coffee in but found nothing. Thankfully, I went to the clubhouse at Traditions West and got some coffee from there with one of their disposable cups.
2. Blanket

Since it's summer, a blanket may not seem like something you'd need. I didn't think so either, especially because I'm always hot anyway. However, with only a sheet to cover me, I was cold my first few nights. I just needed one extra layer and I would've been fine. It got better later on when I realized I didn't have to keep the fan on all night.
3. Hair clips

The weekend before classes started I was having a bad hair day. My parents were with me, and my mom decided to help me with my hair. She suggested I clip my bangs back and asked if I had the piece of cardboard where I keep all my clips. I was taken aback because I didn't know she knew about that. It was just something I came up with when I was being resourceful, and I've been using it ever since. Anyway, I had forgotten to bring it, so we had to improvise.
4. Measuring Cups

Measuring cups serve a lot of purposes. In my case, I wanted some oatmeal. It was my only breakfast option at the moment. When I couldn't find the measuring cups, I had to give up. I'm not skilled enough to estimate measurements. I was feeling disheartened until I got an email saying that there was a burrito bar in the clubhouse. I immediately raced there and was rewarded.
5. Swimsuit

I live in an apartment complex with a pool. I knew this but didn't think I would need my swimsuit because I didn't think the pool would be open very long with the colder weather starting soon. I was walking back to my apartment one day and saw the glimmering blue water of the anyway calling to me. I had some extra time and could've gone for a swim if I had brought my suit.
Living without these things for a week was frustrating, but I survived. Now I know what to get the next time I go home for the weekend.
