Forgiveness, that's what. Too often people assume that their sin is too much for God. Well I have incredible news for you - it's not. Time and time again God has shown us His mercy through His word, the Bible. What we often fail to realize is that His unending mercy and forgiveness applies to us no matter how far we have fallen. His love is unconditional, meaning nothing we do can take it away.
This is told to us in 1 Peter 1: 3-5 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time."
Our sins may be big, but never bigger than God. No mountain is too high and no valley is low enough to keep His love from us - His unconditional love. With that love comes forgiveness and mercy in abundance.
Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."
Ephesians 1:7,8 "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding."
I have also heard people say that they are "too bad for church" and that God would "strike them down" if they stepped foot in the building. That's not how God's love works. He wants us to come to Him. He already knows everything you have done, and He still loves you. He is just waiting for you to open up and let Him in so He can start fixing your broken pieces.
Isaiah 30:18 "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!"
Isaiah 43:25 "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more."
So the next time that you're beating yourself up over falling off the track or talking yourself out of going to church because you feel guilty, remember that God is waiting for you with open arms and a love that heals all wounds.
