Forget Resolutions, Here Are My New Years Guidelines

I'm a perfectionist and a procrastinator at the same time...it's a problem.

So I'm one of those weirdos who make a physical New Years Resolution list every year and tape it up somewhere where I can see it. But something I've come to notice over the years is that I never reach most of my resolutions, and I've finally realized why. My goals where always too ridiculous or weren't flexible enough to adapt to life. For instance, one of my goals for 2017 was to read 100 books by the end of the year. And while I read a lot of books, with school and work that may have been a slightly silly resolution to make.

So this year I'm making a different kind of list. My resolutions are going to be a few ideas to live by as the year goes on rather than a set end-goal. They'll be guidelines more than anything. And hopefully, these guidelines will see me past graduation and into my adulthood with ease.

1. Don't sweat the small things

I'm a perfectionist and a procrastinator at the same time...it's a problem. When problems or projects come up I put them off until the last minute and then freak out when I don't have the time to make every last detail perfect. This year I really need to remember that sometimes it's okay to let the small things go, it's much better for your mental health and sanity.

2. Remember to put yourself and your health first

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO PUT YOURSELF FIRST! It is not selfish to do so. Your health and happiness matter and should never be an afterthought.

3. Say yes, even if it makes you nervous

Do what scares you. Do what makes you nervous but excited. Don't talk yourself out of having fun or taking a chance just because thinking about it makes you a little anxious.

4. It's okay to say no

That being said, if you don't want to do something, it's okay to say no. It is absolutely, 100% okay to say no!

5. Remember that doing what you love is important!

Doing what you love makes life worth living, so don't let anyone convince you that what you love is ridiculous or not worthy of your time. If you do what you love, everything will fall into place.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
