When you live in a colder climate, you have the advantage of being able to wear great clothing, accessories, and boots. However, you also have to deal with dry skin and possibly getting dehydrated because in the fall and winter we honestly don't always drink enough water like we do in the hotter weather. In the spring and summer we typically tend to drink more water. Unfortunately, in the colder season we sometimes forget to stay hydrated. I suffer from naturally dry skin and in the winter and fall it gets very bad. For many of us, dryness occurs all over our faces and even on our lips. So here are a few of my own tips for getting through the season:
1. Drink a lot of water!
Water is so important and something we literally need to exist. Most people say to drink eight glasses of water per day, but it varies based on differing body weights. If you don't know exactly how much you need, then you can check out some great apps and websites to find out just how much water you need to drink. Also, you can even try infused water for extra flavor because plain water can be boring. I often add lemon, lime, cucumber and mint for refreshing new flavors!
2. Make sure you have lip balm or chapstick
This way, your lips stay hydrated and won't become chapped and dry.
3. Make sure to use moisturizer
This goes for everyone! Moisturizer. Is super important. So do research and make sure to find the right moisturizer for yourself and your skin. I feel guys in particular, including myself, forget about moisturizing or don't care to use it. I didn't use a moisturizer until my best friends opened me up to it, and it has made a difference--especially in the drier seasons! Men, don't be afraid to use a moisturizer and go to a cosmetics store and ask a sales person who knows a lot about skincare to help you find the right thing. I feel as guys we don't really care about our skin because we think it's not the manly thing to do. But what I don't understand is how is taking care of yourself is could be considered a non-masculine thing! In my eyes, moisturizing it's like working out or eating healthy. It's all about taking care of yourself. Also try using a good cleanser or scrub to help your skin stay healthy, so find what works for you and your skin!
3. Try your best to get enough sleep
I know none of us do it, but we really should. I myself don't always get enough sleep, but it's so important to sleep eight hours because of school and work and life in general. It's so important to sleep enough and take care of yourself! Especially because a lot of time during the cold weather, we tend to always feel extra tired and exhausted. So sleeping more helps and makes a difference.
4. It's so important to put some time aside for yourself
Even during the stress and craziness, try taking time to enjoy life and relax. School, work, and life can get pretty stressful, but it's really important to take time for yourself. Don't worry, you'll get through the semester and through all the craziness and hectic parts of life. Whether it's going to see a movie or reading your favorite book, remember to take time for yourself every now and then.
