Since coming to college, there has been a lot that I've realized, and I have learned about God and the way that He works.
The pastor at church a few months ago focused his sermon on Genesis 1: The Beginning.
He was talking about how powerful our God has to be in order for Him to be able to speak life into this world. His world. And how incredible our God is that He turned nothing into something. He created this earth from absolutely nothing.
At the end of each day, we see in His word it says, “And God saw that it was good.” The common word Tobh, meaning good, is used in the Old Testament to mean a variety of things. In this passage, God uses Tobh specifically to say, "It is sufficient." At the end of each day, God knew His work was sufficient and good. There was Light, which He called Day, and there was Darkness, naming it Night. God gave everything a name and a purpose.
A the end of Genesis 1, God then talks about seeing over everything in which He had created in the previous six days. He looks at the land and the sea, the plants and the animals and all of creation He had made perfect in His image. He finishes with, “And God saw everything that He has made, and behold, it was very good” (ESV).
It brings me so much happiness when I read over this specific chapter in the Bible. God didn’t just end His last day of creation by saying, "It is good." He ends it with, "It is very good." The world that our most powerful God on High created was most definitely very good and sufficient for His creation. He had a purpose for it all…including man. A purpose for you and a purpose for me.
God didn’t create this world for us to just go around and try to please each other and seek only man. He created us and everything on this earth for a specific purpose. For His people to glorify Him and seek to praise Him always. We were made by this amazing God to simply glorify Him. Both you and I have been created for a reason. Some people, our purpose may not be revealed to us quite yet, but through faith and trust in God, He will open our eyes to His plan in His own timing.
Being in college, it can be hard sometimes. You can feel as though your life is going nowhere to where you thought it would be. From the time you graduated high school, you have done nothing but plan for the rest of your forever. And now, in the midst of life and the craziness that you live in, you can’t help but wonder what God’s purpose is for you specifically. But do not fear, for God, our one and only Creator, has a plan for you.
Sometimes we face the problem of feeling we aren’t good enough for anything or anyone. That we aren’t good enough to carry out God’s will and His plan. Or maybe some of us have a different plan for ourselves than He has for us. We see ourselves going down a different path than He has set forth for us. We must ultimately follow Him and trust His plan, though. We must trust Him, not when it’s only convenient for us, but to constantly put our full faith and trust in Him. We are all good enough in God’s eyes to glorify Him by living for Him and with Him. God looks at us and finds beauty in each of His children.
Don’t worry about trying to please man. We were created to glorify God through our lives and to walk through it with Him. Because when we were created by Him, we were and still are seen as very good in His eyes. He created nothing that was less than good. Don’t worry about man’s thoughts toward you. They are not your creator, nor are they the one we were called to glorify.
Instead, we need to be living our life for God. We have to surround ourselves with the kind of people who will bring us closer to God oppose to those who will pull us away. Because truth be told, college is hard. Temptation is greater than ever. But in these moments in our life, when as the body of Christ, we can work together to fulfill His plan and to truly glorify Him. You are here where you are right now for a reason. You are enough for Christ and are seen as good in His eyes.
