You're not perfect.
Yes, I know your social media makes your life look 100% and everything is dandy.
I'm the same. I'm not perfect, but, because of school and the craziness of life, I tend to want to be. It's easier to try and be perfect than deal with your problems right?
Wrong.
I'm not allowing myself to accept my flaws, brokenness, and imperfection.
Social media plays a bigger role than we think it does. From watching someone's weight loss and wanting it for yourself; to seeing someone's relationship and wanting it for yourself; to even seeing one of your friends post an appreciation post about another friend and wanting it for yourself. Seeing posts like these can send anyone into an existential spiral about their choices and who they are.
I think the problem might not be the need to be perfect, but the way we compare ourselves to what seems like someone else's perfect.
Their good day could be your bad day (and vice versa). Unfortunately, I personally never see it that way and chances are you don't either. It's easy to get stuck in the thought spiral of imperfection and the thoughts at hand than to take a breather and give yourself advice. We are our own worst critics, as cliché and overused as that phrase is, it's true. We want the perfect Instagram photo, perfect tweet, and perfect wardrobe.
So, I challenge you to embrace your imperfections and become the free spirit that I bet you are. Realize that you're beautifully and wonderfully made and roll with it.
None of this is easy, but here is advice to help accept those imperfections.
1. Start realizing that everyone is imperfect, but is loved anyway.
2. Pay attention to the great parts of yourself, like your kindness or your sass.
3. Know that not comparing yourself is hard work and some days you will be rough. Things won't be miraculously better because as humans we tend to be up and down like a roller coaster.
4. Whether you believe in God, I would pray about these imperfections that God gave you. If you don't believe in God, then, meditate or do something that helps you have faith in the beautiful person that you are.
