To The People Who Are Afraid To Speak Their Minds

If you're afraid of confrontation, don't worry, because a lot of people are.

Do you ever have that feeling that you really have something to say but don't want the social backlash for it? Do you have strong opinions, but are afraid to state them because you know you'll get hate from the opposing side. Honestly, same.

I constantly write articles on social issues and then delete them, because I'm afraid of the backlash that I will receive from the public if it were to somehow, miraculously, go viral. I once wrote a political satire article, and it got reposted on the main Odyssey Facebook page. I got many opposing and rude comments, and still to this day I won't go back and read them because they make me cringe. But, I wrote with my own voice and my own opinion, and that's what matters.

Standing up for what you believe in is difficult, especially if you hate confrontation. You want so badly to change things, but fear it because of what people will say to you about it. I understand because I am in those shoes constantly, in fear of what will be said if I give my opinion. The honest truth is, we shouldn't be afraid. We should be empowered.

Argumentation is a fear of mine. However, if we come into an open discussion with education and evidence, there is really nothing to fear. If you truly feel that your side of the story is justified, honest, and correct, there should be no reason to be afraid talking about it. Everyone has opinions, and the truth is that not everyone is going to like the way you think. That doesn't mean you should be quiet.

If you are passionate about a social issue, fight for it. If you are passionate about opposing a social issue, do it. But be respectful, be mindful of the other people, and think about how you would feel if someone said something hateful to you.

Remember that you can change the world by facing adversity. Let your opinion be known and ALWAYS fight for what you believe is right.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
