5 Roles Only A Dad Can Play

A dad is someone that everyone needs in their life. Dads shape and mold you, they help you become who you're supposed to be. A good dad holds your hand from the time you're born until the end. He is there when you fall and then helps you get back up. He can always make you laugh and holds you when you cry.

My dad is someone I look up to and is a standard I measure other guys against- which might not be fair considering how awesome my dad is, lol.

When you have a dad you also have so many other things. My dad has been my coach, cheerleader, psychologist, bank, and so many other things.

When you have a dad you also have a….

1. Role Model & Best Friend

My dad has taught me how to be the person I am. He taught me right from wrong. He showed me how to act and helped me become who I am. He’s influenced ALL of my decisions and opinions. He gave me my taste in music. He taught me how to play softball. And *tries* to explain football to me. He has shown me the funniest movies and TV shows. He's told me who to vote for, but still let me make my own decisions. He told me about the Lord and continues to show me how to give Him my life.

2. Shoulder to Cry On

It may come as a surprise to you- well maybe not all of you- but I cry a lot. And I know it can be annoying when you’re around someone like that. Especially when they always come to you crying or upset, but my dad has never made me feel like an inconvenience or burden. He just accepts it and me. He's let me cry for 30 minutes and not said I was being dramatic or needed to stop. He's helped me get through difficult times, and never told me I was too much to handle.

3. Confidant

I can tell my dad anything, and I do. Whether it's about my day or a disagreement I'm having with someone, or what I think about a book I just read or just random stuff. And he just listens to me and gives advice, when needed. I'm so thankful that he has always made me feel like this.

4. 24/7 Comedian

My dad ALWAYS finds a way to make me laugh. No matter what. If I'm crying or angry or sick- he always makes me laugh. Laughter is so important, it makes us happy and helps us with the heaviness of life. I'm so thankful that I always have someone that makes me smile.

5. Support System & Someone to Make Proud

My dad supports me in whatever I want to do. Through my years playing softball, while I was getting my 2 degrees, and so much more. He has never told me that my dreams are too big or that I couldn't do something if I worked hard enough for it. He pushes me go all out for all of my hopes and dreams. even my dream to be a professional singer and dancer…haha. And he is definitely there when my dreams come true.

Knowing this, that someone is cheering for you and believes in you, makes the difficult times easier. It turns the times when you just want to give up and hide under a blanket into the times that you push on. It gives you more of a drive to keep going and achieve your dreams.

Celebrate and thank all of the fathers in your life this Father’s Day and every day. Father in laws, friends who are dads, brothers who are dads, uncles, grandpa’s, and of course your father. They give us so much.

Thanks Dad!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
