Foods That Boost Your Brain Power

No matter the kind of week you have ahead, these foods are certain to boost your brain power so you can get things done, and knock your to-do's out of the ballpark. Eat (and drink) up!

Cranberry Juice

Can help you focus, ward off Alzheimer’s, and reduce brain damage. Drinking cranberry juice every day, whether as a cocktail, or fresh-squeezed can help with pH balance as well. Try to only consume a glass or two per day because juices from concentrate contain a lot of unnecessary sugar.

Dark Chocolate

A bar a day keeps forgetfulness away. Dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants which fight off free radicals in the body. To get the full effect I recommend eating a piece of dark chocolate fifteen minutes before an exam or other focus-oriented task in order to have just enough of a boost to get you by.

Blueberries

A cup of fresh blueberries everyday has been shown to improve cognitive function and memory. Protect your brain from stress and toss a few berries in your morning parfait.

Salmon

Good fat, anyone? Salmon is packed with omega-3-fatty acids, so having 4 ounces twice a week should fulfill your bodies omega-3 needs.

Avocado

Just like blueberries, avocados promote good cognitive function and memory, with the added bonus of lowering blood pressure.

Broccoli

Vitamin K and good brain function go hand in hand. So eats lots of broccoli to avoid Alzheimer's later in life.

Brown Rice

Whole grains are little energy reservoirs. Eat whole grains at breakfast and lunch to keep a steady flow of energy to the brain.

Green Tea

If you’ve already had a cup of coffee and it's after 2 p.m, don’t go for the leftover junk in the office community pot. Make a cup of green tea instead! Your brain will thank you and you won’t crash at 4 p.m.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
