There comes a huge decision-making period when entering college. With the freedom that comes, the decision of going to church or not becomes a question.
Learning what is important to you and worth your time is important as you come to college and the time that you spend is now solely up to you. No one will be forcing you to wake up to go to school, no one will be cooking for you, and no one will be making you go to church on Sundays.
Following Christ in college is hard, I will admit that.
You are immersed in a culture where praise comes from financial success, and personal/job achievements, instead of the celebration of growth in Christ. It's really a battle fighting the temptations that come with this 'college experience' and honestly, we will be fighting every moment of our life.
But this fight is a wonderful fight.
In 1 Timothy 6:12, it says, "Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses."
Growth in college comes to each student as we are exposed to different cultures, situations, academics, and lifestyle. In this period of inevitable change, there can be deeper understandings through growth in faith.
Committing myself to Christ has been the best thing that has happened to me in college.
The four years of college that you have is a very small part of your life. You have a close community here but as you move on to the real world, it really is me, myself, and I. Your identity will come from your beliefs and over-all what you learned in college.
Following Christ in college is probably the rockiest road ever but in those rocky moments, there is an everlasting and unfailing God who holds you tightly through each tremble.
In this ever so complicated and busy life of a college student, there is value and so much worth in following Christ. There is life in following Christ. And there is hope in following Christ. Through the difficult times of my college career, I have found peace and strength through Him.
God was still working in my heart. There were many temptations that I still go through and lose many times, but in the midst of figuring out where I belong, I want to keep turning to God. In everything I do, I am first a Christian before I am a student and this is my identity.
