Fluoride Helps Fight Cavities

But it doesn't do much else

Go on any conspiracy website and you will see theories on fluoride being used to poison the American populace. I will bet my God damn TAP money on it. In fact the Information Liberation site refers to the "forced fluoridation" of unsuspecting "is wrought with lies, greed and deception."

They even go so far as to say that "Despite growing evidence that it is harmful to public health, US federal and state pubic health agencies and large dental and medical organizations such as the American Dental Association (ADA), continue to promote fluoride."

Save for the fact that there are actual benefits to fluoride. I bet you are all wondering how can I defend fluoride. I mean after all it is a chemical in our drinking water and chemicals are bad (not true, since everything is a chemical). Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but there are actually benefits to fluoride. Although before I begin, I have to make a clarification.

Science News released an article back in the 1960's about the benefits of fluoride in our water, specifically about the benefits it has in regards to bone health. The article in question said that "Dr. D. Mark Hegsted, professor of nutrition at Harvard’s School of Public Health.… [An] adequate intake of fluoride can keep bones healthy and prevent soft tissues from calcifying." However, Science News corrected themselves (fifty years later, but better late than never) by saying "an analysis of 25 studies in 2008 showed fluoride doesn’t ease fracture risk. In 1951, only 3.3 percent of the U.S. population had fluoridated water; by 2014, that rate was up to 66.3 percent. Fluoridated drinking water may not help bones, but it does reduce cavities by 25 percent in both adults and children."

So what can you take from this?

I shall expand on this in a later article but science is NEVER infallible. In fact, it is possibly one of the most fallible methods that mankind has ever created. despite this, however, you must trust it as it is the only way of understanding the world around us.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
