The hardest and most heartbreaking thing that I find that I come across the most living in Florida is the fact that it almost never gets as cold as you think it should be around the holidays. It's even harder to tell people from up north that they won't expect a white Christmas or the temperature dropping below 70 degrees on most days.
If I could have it the way I wanted all the time, I would want Florida to stay sunny and 70 all year round. However, I find myself getting laughed at because people ultimately move to Florida to get away from the cold. But, it's getting to the point where having 80 degrees Christmas Days' is getting a little much. I don't know if it's because I'm not originally from Florida, or sweating through my Christmas pajamas is asinine.
Anyway, here are three major differences between the normal Florida folk, and people who just want it to get cold already.
1.) Temperature gets below 80 degrees once
Most Floridians:
Me:
I actually get to break out my sweaters and boots without dying for once? Wait, why are people dressed like it's snowing? This is the major difference between Floridians and non-Floridians. When it gets to 70 degrees, I like to open every single window I own, not turn my heat up.
Bonus points if it stays below 80 the entire day.
2.) Decorating for Christmas
Most Floridians:
Me:
If you have a palm tree as your Christmas tree, there's a 99.9% chance that I'm judging you for your Christmas plant choices. Christmas tree decorating is supposed to span an entire week if you do it right, not two hours. Also, Christmas decorations should still center around snow. If it doesn't snow here, can we at least act like it? I'm tired of seeing pink flamingos in Santa hats on the beach as Christmas decor.
3.) When the weather starts heating back up
Most Floridians:
Me:
It's never going to be like this ever again until that one weird, off day in January.
