As the weather turns cold, the indoors become the new "hang out." Whether you are relaxing alone in your dorm room, hanging out with a group of friends, cuddling up with your significant other, or crowding on the couch with the family, here are five underrated Christmas movies that are definitely worth the time.
After being forced by her friends to dress up, Wendy Walton (Laura Breckenridge), has a life changing kiss in the elevator leaving her boss’ apartment. She tells her friends about the romantic moment and seeks to find the mysterious man, who turns out to be Adam Hughes (Brendan Fehr), her boss’ boyfriend. Wendy strives to win Adam’s heart over from the rude and bossy Ms. Priscilla Hall (Elizabeth Rohm) by helping to decorate Adam’s home for a huge Christmas party.
While window shopping in the city, a young girl’s letter to Santa lands in the hands of civilian, Crystal (Amy Acker). Not knowing what else to do, Crystal opens the letter to find the little girl’s only wish to be for a wife for her daddy. Crystal tracks down the family using the address on the letter and find herself attracted to hard working, single father, Derek Gowen (David Haydn Jones). To get to know him, she volunteers at the local soup kitchen he runs. Of the many obstacles she runs into, the biggest is his current girlfriend, Jilian (Gina Holden). Lucky for Crystal, she has Derek’s daughter, Olivia on her side. This Lifetime holiday film is one you don’t want to miss.
Kat (Danica McKellar) and Sam (Dustin Milligan) share a tradition to eat dinner at the children’s table every Christmas eve. They grew up together, yet only saw each other once a year. Throughout the years, their feelings changed from friendship, to hate, to love. Neither recognized their love for each other, however, until they were both in their twenties. Although very predictable, this heart-warming film is worth the watch.
The film stars Rachel Boston as Georgia, and Jon Prescott as Craig. Weeks before Christmas, Georgia is informed that her high school reunion is near. She is reluctant to go because she is not rich with a five-star job, like all of her other friends from high school. She was voted most likely to succeed and is ashamed she has not gotten very far since graduation. However, she is convinced to go after reuniting with her high school groupies. She intends to use the coming days to recapture her handsome former boyfriend, Craig’s, heart.
The film stars Erin Krakow, a school teacher, and David-Haydn Jones, the new single dad in town. After the death of his wife, James (Jones) and his daughter move to have a new start. His daughter is placed into Christie Reynold’s (Krakow) class. Christie and her arch nemesis, fellow teacher Penny Miller, are always competing, but this time it is a race to win James’ heart by showing off their talents at the school’s bake-off. Although this is a fairly traditional Hallmark Channel romance film, it is worth the watch.
These movies can be found on either Hulu or Netflix, with the exception of A Cookie Cutter Christmas, which is regularly scheduled to show on the Hallmark Channel.
