Well, next week I will be returning to my apartment on Walsh University's campus to start a brand new semester. I am certainly eager and looking forward to my new classes, another successful semester, and a fresh start to the new year. However, while I have many positive feelings toward this new semester, I still have had feelings throughout this last week of not wanting winter break to end just yet, and questioning how I will perform academically this semester. This list I have written up contains a few of those thoughts I have had over the past week before I head back to campus. I'm not too worried though because most likely after the first week of classes for the spring semester, these thoughts, particularly the negative and worrisome ones, will leave my brain eventually.
1. "Where Am I? At School?! Wait, What Happened To Winter Break?!
Okay I might be exaggerating this a little bit as I know where Walsh's campus is and I'm incredibly familiar with it. However, I know for sure that this coming first week of classes for the spring semester will involve a little adjusting since I'm taking new classes, including a science class which has always been one of my most difficult subjects along with math, and I'll be working on new things such as some new music pieces for my voice lessons. However, eventually after this first week back, I will become familiar with my new class schedule and adjust to the new semester in no time. I just wish we could have had at least one more week of winter break because it felt like it went by too fast this year, but oh well.
2. "Well, There's Still Martin Luther King Jr. Day"
Now I'm not trying to sound disrespectful to Dr. King. But, while this is a day to appreciate and acknowledge the great leader and minister he was in American history, especially during the Civil Rights Movement, it is also nice to know that King's day is a national U.S. holiday in which kids are given a day off of school resulting in a three day weekend. However, I will certainly use this long nice weekend as a way for me to reflect on how my first week back at Walsh was, and if I should make any changes or adjustments to make it an even better spring semester for myself. Therefore, the countdown to January 16 begins... now.
3. "Goodbye Sleep, Nice Knowing Ya"
Oh sleep-ins until 11 o'clock or noon, how I will miss you in the next coming months. I know I said that trying to get more hours of sleep and less procrastinating throughout this coming spring semester were two of my New Year's Resolutions, but I can't say that I will accomplish these two goals every single day of the semester. You can only go through a college semester for so long until you eventually need to pull an "all-nighter" to get your work done after playing video games all day. Until we meet again sleep-ins aka spring break.
4. "I Can't Wait To See All Of My College Friends"
It will be very exciting and satisfying to talk and hangout with my Walsh friends again this coming spring semester, since they are pretty much the ones that help get me through both the successes and struggles of my semesters every year. While I might not run up to them at full-speed to give them a hug and knock them down to the ground like Michael Scott here, I will for sure give my college pals some friendly handshakes and welcoming hugs to show how much I have missed them in the past month over winter break.
5. "Get Over The Winter Break, Work Hard, Study, Stay Confident, And..."
While my winter break was relaxing, fun, and a great time seeing loved ones over Christmas and New Year's, it is once again time for me to get back to work and have another successful and enjoyable semester. Good luck to all my fellow college students during the spring semester. Hope you all have a good one!
