Whether you're in high school or college, chances are that you're back in school now, which means goodbye to sweet, sweet summer. Now that may seem like it signifies the end of all things fun, but really it doesn't. School can be just as great as the summer. Well, almost just as great. Especially if you're in college, because that means you're back to living with all of your friends and have some extra freedom, which is kind of nice, right? Also, it means that fall is in the air, and who doesn't love fall? It's my second favorite season, but my favorite transition. I love the in-between of summer and fall. It's still warm but sometimes chilly, which means jeans, boots and comfy sweaters. To make the most of the new school year, you should definitely try to do some fun things that will make you happy, as well as concentrating on your schoolwork and future.
Here are five things you should do to make the most of the new school year:
1. Decorate your dorm room.
Let's face it, dorm rooms kind of look like jail cells or hospital rooms. Most of them have plain white walls, sometimes even tile, which is even less homey feeling. Decorating with things you like will make you much happier and more inclined to spend time in your room. It is your home away from home after all.
2. Hang out with your friends.
Some of the best therapy comes from hanging out with your close friends, and in college, you'll need it. As fun as it is, it can be quite stressful, but your friends can totally relate and you'll help each other through it. Also, who doesn't like to hang out with their friends anyways?
3. Go to class.
As tempting as it can be, don't skip class! Chances are you'll be sick at some point and regret skipping class weeks earlier just to sleep in now that you have a real reason. Save it. If you're tired you can just nap later. Do you really want to waste that much money skipping a class just to sleep in?
4. Don't just go to class, be at class.
Getting your butt to class is just the first step to actually being there. In order to actually benefit from being in class is if you're actually there, as in your mind. Put your phone away and stop daydreaming, because if you aren't present, your wasting your time and money.
5. Get your rest.
If you get your rest in the first place, you won't be as tempted to skip class. Unless you royally screwed up and procrastinated enough that you need to. There really is no reason to pull an all-nighter that often.
Here's to a new school year. I hope you make it great!
