5 Scriptures To Get You Through The Day

We all have those days. You know, the days where you slept through your alarm, spilled your scolding hot coffee down the front on your last clean shirt, wore two different shoes, showed up half an hour late to work, and eventually look to the heavens and simply mouth the words "what next?" We have all been there, done that, and have the t-shirt to prove it. However, not every day that starts badly has to end that way. Here are a few of my favorite scriptures to look at when my day begins to go pear-shaped.

1. Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

This verse is a simple reminder to remain strong. No matter what is thrown at you, the Lord will be with you every single step of the way, for you are never truly alone.

2. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."

When I begin to feel uneasy, uncomfortable, or unsettled, I am reminded that God is not one to overwhelm us, but to challenge us. He will always comfort in times of trouble.

3. 2 Timothy 1:7

"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."

This verse is great for remembering that God made you a strong individual. With the Holy Spirit within you, there is nothing that you cannot conquer or overcome, for you are powerful.

4. John 14:27

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

When I read this verse, I simple breathe. I remember that the Lord sends us His peace, and we should not be anxious or troubled, but peaceful.

5. Psalms 118:24

"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

You woke up this morning. You had clothes to spill your coffee on. You had two different pairs of shoes to mix-match. The Lord made you a day to have, and although it may have started out rough, you have the ability to rejoice in your blessings and be glad in your day.

Everyone goes through rough patches in their lives. Everyone has "down days." Everyone has those "why me?" days. But, these verses are simple reminders that when we are weak, He is strong. There is no fear, no trial or tribulation, no obstacle that you cannot overcome. When you are having a "why me?" kind of day, remember these five verses to get you through the day.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
