Halloween costumes can cost a fortune and the college budget doesn't really allow for us to get the amazing costumes we want. One of the best ways around that is to pick a costume you can make yourself. Something simple but creative, and don't worry if it's been done before, you can still do your own spin on the costume. Here are five costumes you can easily make yourself!
1. Care Bears
A truly easy costume to make, Care Bears are very iconic and they can be a lot of fun to create. They're perfect for groups of people or couple outfits.
What you need: Felt, colored paper or cloth and Sharpies. You can also buy bear ears or a hooded jacket that has bear ears.
What to do: Make the ears out of colored paper, felt or cloth, wear the colors of the bear you've chosen to recreate. Then make the Care Bear belly out of white paper, felt or cloth and then draw the symbol with your colored sharpies.
2. Men In Black
This one is super easy and doesn't require much at all. If you really don't have any money at the current moment but you have a black suit, you can use that and dress up as an agent from Men In Black.
What you need: A back suit and a pair of black sunglasses. You can make one of the gadgets or carry something similar to it for effect but you don't have to.
3. Vampire
These creatures of the night are extremely popular in today's cultures, that means there are many different interpretations of them. Looking for something creative but still easy to make, then a vampire might be the right fit, especially since you can still be scary!
What you need: Face paint and make up, fake blood or food coloring, and vampire fangs.
What to do: For a vampire, what you need to do is pick a specific type of vampire you want to recreate, more modern or classic? Then apply the face paint and make up according to the type of vampire you'll be creating. You'll need to use a white powder, foundation or white paint to lighten your skin and some dark eyeshadow around your eyes to make yourself look hungry. For effect, you'll want to use fake blood and dribble it from the corner of your mouth or spread it all over your mouth.
If you want, you can even paint two dots on your neck to show where you were bitten and dribble some blood from those so you look freshly turned.
4. Silent Film Star
A fun, retro throwback for Halloween might be dressing up as a silent film star. It's easy to do and it makes an eye-catching costume for parties.
What you need: Black clothes, white body and face paint, black lipstick and eyeshadow.
What you need to do: Paint your face and body white and apply the black lipstick and eyeshadow. If you can, dress in clothes that resemble the silent movie time period. For effect, print a couple sayings on paper and hold them up at different points throughout the night.
5. Greek God or Goddess
One last costume idea you can make yourself is a Greek god or goddess costume. Gods are timeless and easily recognizable. For fun, you could pick one to emulate and carry props specific to that god or goddess.
What you need: A white sheet to turn into a toga, gold jewelry, a head piece of some sort and a rope belt.
What you need to do: Tie the sheet around yourself, put on the jewelry and headpiece and then tie the rope belt around yourself.
Making costumes yourself is usually cheaper and it's a great way to have fun with Halloween.
