Somewhere, off in the distance, the faint tapping of keys on an old, outdated computer can be heard. As those fingers fly, a new world comes to life: one of heroes, dragons and rampant murder of fan-favorite characters. Those flying fingers, however, do not fly fast enough. For a new season of "Game of Thrones" is here, and there is no book to be read. Damn.
Get it together, old man.
So, if you couldn't tell, "Game of Thrones" is coming back April 24, the very same day I wrote this article, which you will all probably read on April 25. It's been a year since the last season of GOT, and fans have been ravenous for more blood, gore, sex and of course dragons. For fans, the anticipation is high, and there are some things that we contemplate as we await the show's return.
1. What's going to happen this season?
If you've read the books, congrats, you're an awesome fan. If you haven't, then I'm sorry to say you suck. That's just how it is. This is the first season we're going in completely blind; sure, there were some huge and noticeable disparities from the past books and seasons, but we've always had a sense of what is to come.
This season, there's absolutely nothing to break us into season six. Who's going to die? How are the characters going to get out of whatever they've gotten themselves into? It's like being blindfolded and told to swing at a piñata you've never even seen, in a land filled with murderers, swords and evil ice monsters.
2. What will become of Jon Snow?
Last we saw him, Jonny boy was bleeding out into the frozen tundra after being betrayed by his brothers of The Night's Watch (what a bunch of goons). Many fans have theories regarding Azor Ahai and Melisandre's role, but a large consensus agree he is going to be resurrected. But then what? Will we ever know who Jon Snow really is? Is he actually the bastard son of Nedd Stark, or are we correct in assuming he's actually the child of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark? Even more importantly, will this even be touched upon in this season, if at all? Are you confused by this whole paragraph? If you read the books you'd know what I'm talking about.
"Come on, did I really die for you guys, only to have you not read the books?"
3. Will weaker characters grow this season?
Last season, we saw the characters that had been slacking finally picking up said slack. For instance, Sansa Stark had been panned by critics and fans alike for being too weak, too girly and too prissy. Yet last season we saw her ante up and take control of her life, escaping from the clutches of the universally despised Ramsey Bolton.
Jon Snow had also taken charge, another character many felt was too reserved and uninvolved. Fans want to see characters who haven't had much screen time develop a little bit more; this, however, is purely opinion. Some people may find Arya to be a weak character, others not so much. We can all agree, though, that Jorah Mormont is weak.
You're a weak man, Jorah. You're soft.
4. What about the White Walkers?
In past seasons, the creators dragged their feet on what to do with the White Walkers. There had been plenty of buildup and foreboding surrounding these guys, but nothing too concrete until season five, where we saw them wipe out an entire village like bad asses. Now that we're six seasons in, I think it's reasonable to think we may finally get to see them set into motion. Will we finally know what their motives are? Will they launch a full scale attack on all of Westeros, dominating every form of life in their path? I don't know, but I want to, and I hope this season will deliver. In 30 minutes or less.
I made a pizza joke. Are you proud of me yet, ma?
5. Who's going to die?
Boy, I can't tell you how much this one is messing with me. There are so many characters we want to see stay alive, and so many we would kill ourselves if we were given the chance (or the pen, rather). Every time we fall in love with a character, Martin finds a great way to kill them off, but he also kills off a bad guy to satisfy us. He's a weird, abusive man who hurts us but then rewards us, so let's hope this season he rewards us. He can definitely kill Melisandre for us, as well as Ramsey and Olly. Especially Olly.
I'd tell you to go cry to your mommy, but Martin already killed her, too.
Well, those are my biggest concerns, which I ponder as I anxiously await the start of season six. Make sure you all tune in!
