The Mon-Fri Experience Of Your First Week As An LSU Sophomore

Returning to LSU is always an interesting experience, but I have to admit, my first week of college this year as a Sophomore was extremely different from my first week of college as a Freshman.

Monday:

It's finally time for back-to-school festivities. You've either a.) dreaded seeing the syllabus and the Tiger Trail buses or b.) had a terribly boring summer working and cannot wait to see living, breathing human beings. You dress semi-cute because only the freshmen actually dress nice for school, and you totally don't want people thinking you're a freshman (even though you were one like 3-4 months ago). You're no longer nervous about not finding your class. Personally, I was excited to help show the campus to a few freshmen I know. We are no longer the babies of campus... 😎😎😎

Tuesday:

Second day of class this week. Tuesday and Thursday classes call for long class periods, 30 minutes extra than a normal Monday, Wednesday, Friday class. You try hard to put in the same amount of effort into your appearance as yesterday, but man, it was harder to get up this morning. GroupMe chats are being created, and you're trying to remember if Tommy was the guy who sat behind you in English or the guy in front of you in history.

Wednesday:

Wednesday's here, and the traffic that all of these new people in Baton Rouge are causing is already giving you the morning blues. Don't you know that you literally just have to go for it when it comes to switching lanes? FYI Baton Rouge people don't use blinkers; get used to it. You're already running late for class on your third day of school. And who even cares what you look like right?

Thursday:

Alright, I kinda miss the whole boring summer, no people, no traffic thing. Can we bring that back? Thursday's equal the last class of your foreign language this week, so I guess that's good. Push through... tomorrow is Friday. Also, new kids, I get that you're still trying to figure your way around campus, but I have three minutes to get to Turead Hall so can you please not stop to form a screaming, teenage girl clump in the middle of the quad? I will literally walk right through it.

Friday:

Friday, at last. You've gotten all (or some) of the books you need. Even though you rented used copies of all four books, your credit card balance has a lovely negative next to the dollar amount. You've gotten through the first week, however. So now it's time to party! Or for me, time to go back home for some free, home-cooking. Hence the word, FREE. I ran out of Tiger Cash already. I have eaten nothing but grilled cheese and nuggets all week.

It truly wasn't as bad as you expected, and you know that all of the craziness will settle down by the end of next week. Best part is, you did it! One week down, about 13(ish) more to go.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
