It's the first week of classes and everybody is on campus because of first-day attendance. Starbucks is packed because students need coffee to function for classes at all hours of the day. The bookstore is packed since a lot of people are getting their textbooks at the last minute. Even walking through campus is packed with everyone rushing to classes at various buildings.
Don't get me started on parking though (rolls eyes). For the past two years, I have been able to walk to campus from my apartment. Unfortunately, I moved into an apartment farther from campus this year so I can't walk to class anymore and after two days, I don't like it.
Since my classes don't start until later in the afternoon, finding parking is extremely difficult because everyone is already on campus. One of my friends was still looking for a spot after 40 minutes. There's no way I'm doing that.
On the first day, I tried to bike to class and it didn't go so well. It was only supposed to take me 15 minutes to get to campus, yet it took me about a half an hour. By the time I made it, my legs felt like jello, my ass was sore, and I was sweating buckets. It was disgusting and I swore I was never doing it again.
So, I decided to try to take the bus to campus instead but even that's challenging. Depending on the location of the class, I have to take multiple buses in order to get there and I still have to walk a bit to actually get to the building I need. I just don't understand the bus system quite yet.
This may become more problematic when I start working and have a limited amount of time to get to class. I definitely don't want to be late to classes and buses aren't always the most reliable but it saves me gas so we'll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. I've also realized that buses are really slow.
If you don't show up for your first class, you get dropped so obviously, for the most part, everybody shows. One of my friends is an exception. He said that he didn't feel like going to class on Monday so he didn't show up and now he'll just re-register for the classes he missed. What sense does that make?
If you plan on taking a class, why would you not show up? What if other people are trying to add the class and it's closed when you go back to re-register? Wouldn't it just be easier to go to class?
One thing that I don't understand about college students is that we pay for these classes and then half of us don't go. If I'm paying for something, you can bet that I'm going to be there unless I have a legit excuse to miss it.
