Starting my first week of college has been strange. It feels like at any minute I’m gonna get a call or text from someone in my family saying they’re here to pick me up. The thing is, they’re not. Eventually, I’ll be going home and seeing them, but it still seems like I’m not staying here.
The weird thing about college is there are some people who can’t wait to get home and see their families or even sleep in their own beds, and then there are some people who leave and never want to look back. At this moment I still want to go home and just live like what my life was. Sometimes though you just have to rip the band-aid off all at once and in this case the band-aid seems like its been ripping since I decided to go away for school. This band-aid feels even worse because it’s my first year going away.
Besides moving away there’s another big thing that comes with going to college, and the most important, is going to classes. As I am writing this I have been to all of my classes and so far they all seem interesting. It seems like I might have a tough course load this semester but sometimes the challenge is good. Funny side note I thought I was enrolled in Ethics and it turned out I was actually enrolled in Food and Nutrition. Just goes to show you can get into college and make dumb mistakes. Also not having air conditioning has been a real pain in my butt, but once it’s winter I’ll be missing the heat.

I’m very optimistic to see what this school year brings me. There are many opportunities for new friends, new lessons, and to find my new adult self. College is where people find out what they’re really interested in and what kind of person they want to be. As an incoming freshman, I want to tell future Freshman that everything is going to be okay and to just enjoy this time while you can, because it goes by really fast.
