Coming into FDU as a freshman can be very difficult. Everyone says things will get better, but it is not until the second semester that you will truly understand why.


First Semester:

1. I think I might like my roommate.

2. God, who are all you people?

3. How does one “make friends?"

4. How does one “do laundry?”

5. Good thing no one is going to like me and I’ll have no friends.

6. Hold on just let me rewrite my class schedule 100 more times.

7. I guess I should text my friends and tell them how much I miss and appreciate them.

8. Is it even legal to serve the cafeteria food?

9. I need to get up at least an hour before class starts so I can look good.

10. He’s kind of cute maybe we’ll get married and have babies.

11. Is it normal to go to these events or is it weird?

12. Sylly week? What’s a sylly week?

13. These showers make me want to cry.

14. I miss my mom… Even though she’s only 30 minutes away.

15. I have no idea where I’m going.

16. Why do I have so much homework?

17. Aren’t college boys supposed to be good looking?

18. That’s so high school.

19. Why did I pick such a small school?

20. How can they be dating? We’ve only been here a month.

21. Zeta Delta Sigma what?

22. At least I have three friends now.

23. Too bad I spent all my money on food.

24. Why are there no parties at this place?

25. I need to hand in my homework a week in advance.

26. Ramen or Easy Mac? Both.

27. How does everyone know everyone already?

28. Could be going to school in the city right now but for some reason I chose to be here.

29. How did I wake up at 6 a.m. in high school?

30. Maybe I’ll transfer.

31. She dated who?

32. I got a text about a party – life is amazing.

33. I finished all nine seasons of "The Office" in a month.

34. Be honest, does it look like I gained the freshman 15?

35. I’ll probably just go home this weekend.

Second Semester:

1. I love my roommate.

2. Why can’t I go anywhere without seeing one person I know?

3. What would I do if we hadn’t met last semester?

4. I’ll do your laundry, just call me Mr. Clean.

5. When does rush start?

6. What classes do I have on Tuesdays again?

7. College can change people.

8. Why is the cafeteria food only good on the days the school has tours?

9. Probably just going to wear sweats to class today.

10. He hooked up with her? Gross.

11. I’m pretty sure I have zero priority points.

12. I decided that this semester I’m going out every night of sylly week.

13. Why is our water off?

14. Why does my mom keep calling me?

15. Go right after the gate, make a right at next stop sign and you’ll see the public safety barn.

16. I really don’t want to write this paper right now.

17. Who should I ask to formal?

18. That’s so college.

19. I would have never been able to handle a big school.

20. They broke up? Didn’t see that one coming.

21. I love my sisters!

22. Wouldn’t have made it this far in college without my best friends.

23. I only have $10 and I’m saving it for chipotle.

24. What are we doing this weekend?

25. That’s due tomorrow?!

26. I hope I don’t explode the Easy Mac in the microwave again.

27. Everyone here is from Staten Island.

28. I never thought I would say it but, I love my school.

29. 8:30 a.m. classes will be the death of me.

30. I never want to graduate.

31. Has everyone at this school dated each other?

32. Where did you end up deciding to go last night?

33. I might change my major to Bio so I can become Meredith Grey.

34. I would go to the gym, but that requires getting out of bed.

35. You’re staying all weekend right?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
