My First Real On-Campus Experience At Regent University
Jonathan Pflegl

Well, it is 2016 already. What a year it’s been for me. Over the past few months, I had the great opportunity of living in the Regent University village for the very first time. Although it was challenging at first adjusting to the life outside of upstate New York, I soon found myself happily adapting to living with three other Regent students and finding ways to get to my classes without a car. But it was an experience worth having. Here is a synopsis of what a usual week at Regent was like for me.

On Mondays, I woke up around 8.30 a.m. and did my morning devotions. I always wanted to put God first before everything else. After devotions, I would head to the kitchen and make coffee and breakfast. I usually find one or two of my roommates, Ron Pantalena and Cole Garrett, already awake and doing their own thing. The third roommate, Brooke Meade, is typically sleeping. Cole would be all packed up and ready to leave for his classes, and Ron would be listening to music while fixing his own breakfast. After breakfast, I would proceed to work out while watching ESPN. Following a workout, I will get dressed and ready to start work for my online classes. After doing some readings, I will take a break and make myself lunch. After lunch, I continue with my online class work until it is all done. Once I’ve finished all assignments and readings, I can relax. During free time, I practiced drums(electronic kit), watched TV, or simply read a Sports Illustrated magazine.

Tuesday mornings, I have to wake up early and prepare to head out for my on-campus classes, Improvisation at 3.55 p.m. and Narrative Concept and Development at 6 p.m. I shower, pack a lunch and get my backpack, have a quick breakfast, then head out on the Regent shuttle. I take the 11.40 a.m. shuttle so that I have time to do some studying at the library. In between studies, I have lunch. When I’m finished with my online class work, I head over to the Communications building, where the Improvisation classes are held. After improv class, I head over to the Regent ordinary for a quick bite to eat before I leave for my narrative concept and development class. Once this class is over, I ride back to my apartment with my fellow roommate Brooke. Then, I'll get ready to leave to go shopping at WalMart--if I am short on essential groceries. I get back from my shopping spree a little after 8 p.m., leaving me with enough time to work on my discussion posts and/or any undone assignments. At 8.45 p.m., I walk over to LifeGroup. After that, I finally go back home and relax. Tuesdays, in general, are the busiest days of the week on my schedule.

Wednesdays are similar to Mondays. However, I also find time to do weekly loads of laundry, as well as prepare and make dinner and finish with my discussion posts. Once everything is done, I can relax.

Thursdays, I perform the same routine as on Tuesdays. I am finished at 5.10 p.m., and that gives me time to walk out to where the shuttle stops to pick students up. I take the shuttle and in a few minutes I’m back at the Regent Village. I go home to find my roommates either working or taking it easy. I am torn between watching NFL football or go to UnChapel, Regent’s student-run church service. Because I have no transportation, and because I am a huge sports fan, I skip out on going to UnChapel and watch the football game.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
