The First Month Of College As Told By "Parks & Recreation"

After a summer free of responsibilities and deadlines, coming back to school can be a bit of a shock. The classes, the campus, even living with roommates can at times feel overwhelming. While we battle our first-month-of-college blues, here is a list of “Parks and Recreation” gifs that we can all relate to, courtesy of our favorite citizens of Pawnee, Ind.

1. Having to forgo your summer resting schedule and forgetting how little sleep you actually get on a regular basis.

Sometimes, it can be hard to remember that you actually have to go to sleep and wake up at a reasonable time when you’re in school, so you’re a little out of it when you are able to sleep in again.

2. When it’s syllabus week and you get out of every class early.

The best part of coming back to school is the grace period where teachers go easy on you. I know, I’m as shocked as you are.

3. Reuniting with friends on campus.

Nothing feels better than frantically waving to get your friend’s attention and making all of the people around you think you’re crazy.

4. When the professor tries to actually teach on the first day.

Do they really think I’m going to stay and learn when I’m still trying to figure out where my classes are? See you next class.

5. Going grocery shopping for your first week.

It’s pretty hard to sacrifice all of the boxes of pop-tarts for more reasonable items, like milk or butter or… flour? Never mind, I’m taking the gummy bears.

6. Having to write your first essay of the semester.

The true sign that summer is having to turn in a 10-page academic paper to your professor. It’s heartbreaking, but at least you’ve mastered the art of re-wording the same sentence over and over again to achieve the word count.

7. Even worse, having to give your first presentation of the semester.

As if writing papers weren’t bad enough, having to present in class is probably the worst assignment ever given. Is it possible to opt out?

8. When the professor makes you stay late in class to finish their presentation.

They should know by now to not waste my time. Every second I spend reviewing information from last semester, another person gets in the line at Chiptole.

9. Reverting back to your typical college meals.

We are nothing if not innovative culinary chefs.

10. Coming to the realization that you have the entire rest of the semester to look forward to.

If you think it’s bad now, just remember that you have to go through midterms and finals, too!

11. Deciding that you don’t really need school, after all.

That college degree isn’t really necessary when you’re creative.

Happy fall semester, fellow students! And if you’re ever stressed, just ask yourself—what would Leslie Knope do?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
