Las Vegas' Monthly Artist Haven

First Friday is the monthly event that has turned into the artists' refuge of Las Vegas. On the first Friday of every month, the Arts District houses one of the best events Vegas has to offer. Showing off a more cultural side to Las Vegas rather than a touristy one, locals young and old come out every month for live music, street performances, food trucks, vendors, artists, theatre performances, art exhibits, and shops that all radiate the bohemian artistic vibe that the rest of Las Vegas lacks.

Chakra Creations vendor booth, Divinely inspired jewelry, clothing, and accessories at First Friday. For more beautiful and powerful creations come visit this booth or www.ChakraCreations.net.

Held in the downtown Arts District, the streets and parking lots surrounding the Art Square and Arts Factory are filled with the buzz of a good time. The sounds of happy chatters and DJs fill the air and it feels electric. The bright colors of paintings and jewelry are so eye catching it's hard to decide which vendor to start with. Street performers and crowds of unique people flood the area. Only on First Friday will you see people painting murals in the middle of a street in Las Vegas. Turn the corner to find a drum circle with people swaying their hips to the upbeat music, and it's impossible not to smile. The smell of the food trucks may want to keep you outside, but the bright white lights of an art exhibit draw you in.

In the Art Square building, there is exhibit after exhibit of jaw dropping beautiful art. Going beyond paint on canvas, there is photography, sculptures, and one of most unique forms --body art. These small buildings contain so much life you can feel it in the room. On the way out you'll find the Cockroach Theatre supporting local actors and authors and opening their space for up to $2 ten minute plays. Worth far more than $2, these performers are amazing. Ranging from two person comedic scenes to musical numbers, you won't leave without being impressed. Exit that building and across the way there is even more art to gape in wonder at. Besides art, you can't miss the yoga studios and meditation classes going on. These buildings also house some of the most unique shops in Vegas. Widow's Den Boutique is a perfect example of clothing for the modern day bohemian woman that thrives off the vibes at First Friday.

The people that visit First Friday every month are some of the best types of free spirits. Smiles are all around and infectious. Dancing in the street and letting your freak flag fly isn't just suggested -- it's welcomed. First Friday is an escape to art culture in a city that thrives on tourism. From children to adults, this event has much to offer for everyone. For the artsy of Vegas it feels like home. The feeling of being in the heart of creation, passion, and happiness is Vegas' own version of Boho New York. Artist come this way and bring friends. Don't miss this event the first Friday of October.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
