You hear of humans as young as infants being able to ride in an airplane. My family always drove to our vacations, so I didn’t go on my first plane ride until just now when I’m 24 with my baby brother (19) and my fiancé (25). People are always floored when I say that I’ve never traveled by plane at my age. It comes from my family not being to afford it, and one of my parents being afraid of flying. The experience was interesting. Considering my first flight as a whole was 10 hours and 5 minutes. I mean go big or go home. The journey was a hoot and a holler.

I was never inspired to go on a plane when I knew I could drive or take a boat to anywhere. Getting to the airport and going through security was an experience within itself. I felt like a true idiot when I saw my bags compared to others. I know for next time to pack smartly. I didn’t know you had to separate food, electronics and other liquids under 3oz. I took more time than was needed and I wore too many layers. This is where I learned that it is how you pack that can effect you in line. I felt so bad for people behind me. I traveled out of Orlando International Airport, and it is a nice airport. I know my experience can be different from another people. One should take time to research the options that they have. Different airlines have different perks and fees.

As I boarded the first plane of my 2-plane 3-stop journey to the west coast, I was nervous beyond expectations. I didn’t what was going to happen. People told me to let loose because I have no control over what happens. The first runway was so fun, it reminded me of climbing a roller coaster without it dropping. It truly was exhilarating climbing up then when we started to climb down, we hit turbulence and that was not fun. It freaked me out because I didn’t know what to expect. This experience isn't like others. I have heard stories from other airlines that could make your arm hair stand up. Its all about being safe and clean. I've seen crumbs on the floor and wrappers. If you are in a plane, you'll see that it is hard for the attendants to clean up.

Flying in an airplane was an experience in itself. Going through the steps to get to the craft truly was stressful and hilarious for my first time. Holding up the line at the security was embarrassing because I felt like someone could be late for their flight. The extra 2 or 3 minutes could have cost someone their flight. I know it is silly, but it's what happens when one can become stressed.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
