So I Just Finished Watching 'Gilmore Girls'...
The Atlantic

I first watched Gilmore Girls when I was in middle school. I would get off the bus from school and rush home to watch it with my mom everyday at four o'clock on ABC Family (now named Freeform...ugh). But honestly, I didn't really remember much of it besides remembering that I loved it. So this summer my mom and I sat down and binge watched the entire series in preparation for the revival coming in November. And let me tell you, I have some newfound opinions. I still love the show, but half the time I found myself sitting there, gawking at the screen, and thinking "Uh...huh?" Maybe I'm not the only one who feels this way.

1. Dean was the worst boyfriend.

Totally not sorry about this possible unpopular opinion, but I honestly didn't see any chemistry between Dean and Rory besides the fact that they thought each other was cute. He was a bore with no personality. Actually, the only time he ever had a personality was when he was overly jealous, aggressive, needy, and controlling. And Rory was always the one apologizing when she did nothing wrong. And you know he was secretly vibing on Lorelai the entire time. And I hated the fact that Lorelai loved him so much because if my daughter were dating someone like that then I would not be happy about it.

2. I'm Team Jess. Or... Team Logan? Jess?

I always find myself torn between Jess and Logan. While they were dating, Jess definitely had some growing up to do, but he and Rory had so much in common that it was hard not to love him and his bad boy persona. And we see that he later grows into himself and is the only one to really snap Rory back into reality. And while Logan was admittedly a bit of a jerk at the beginning, we see him grow up as well and the fights that he and Rory had were necessary and strengthened them as a couple. And you could tell he obviously loved Rory. (Sidenote: And why did Lorelai hate them so much? She totally judged Jess on his bad boy attitude (but who wouldn't be mean when they were shipped off by their mother?) and Logan because he came from the world that she left. Like, what?)

3. The townspeople are freaking awful.

If I had neighbors that gossiped about me and needed to know every little detail of my life, I would have a hard time not flipping them the bird. I get that they live in a small town, but what don't people understand about minding their own damn business? I cringed so hard whenever Taylor, Babette, Patty, or even Kirk started trying to pry because if all you live through other people's excitement (ahem, Babette and Patty) or try to control everyone else to make your life perfect (ahem, Taylor), then that's just sad.

4. Lorelai was actually kind of idiotic a lot of the time.

I know Rory was her daughter, but let her fight her own battles! She got involved way too much with Rory's feuds with other characters (ie. Jess and Dean) and had such a hard time communicating with others. And while I totally think she was justified in breaking things off with Luke, she could have probably avoided it if she had been open about how she was feeling a lot earlier. I had a hard time feeling sorry for her because a lot of the time it was her fault that things got so bad.

5. April was pretty awesome.

I hate that she was caught up in the whole fiasco between Luke and Lorelai because she didn't deserve that. She was a bright, young kid who just wanted to get first place at the science fair and didn't want anything from Luke. She actually loved Lorelai and the fact that Luke basically cut Lorelai off from getting to know her was wrong considering she was supposed to be her step-mother. April's mom was actually a little too protective over April, especially when she decided to move to New Mexico and Luke had to fight for custody. That was insane. And April just reminded me of what a young Rory would've been like. And I think she helped Luke to not be so cynical.

6. The friendships were better than anything else.

I couldn't give a damn about any of the romances on the show because honestly, as I look back at it, none of the guys were ever totally great. It was really the friendships that made the show for me. I loved the relationship between Lorelai and Rory and many times it reminds me of my own friendship with my mom. Sookie was the only one who ever told Lorelai when she was being an idiot and I always loved her spritely personality. Rory and Lane had the type of friendship that I always wanted from a young age and I always admired their ability to be able to keep their friendship together as they grew up. And while Paris was a very difficult person, I always had a soft spot for her and you could tell that her and Rory were actually really good friends, no matter how reluctant they might have been to admit it.

7. Emily wasn't really that bad.

While she was totally in the wrong many times with trying to intervene or control Lorelai and Rory's lives, there were many times that I empathized with her because I was able to see where she was coming from. And there were those times when you saw her give advice and do beyond nice things for Lorelai (she wanted to by her and Luke a HOUSE, despite the fact that she didn't really think Luke was good enough for Lorelai) and I always felt sorry for her when Lorelai didn't appreciate her. And if she did appreciate her, then she should've showed it. And Lorelai completely gets her wit from Emily because she made me laugh and more than a few occasions.

While I may have some unpopular opinions about the show, I hope I am not alone in this. And if I am, then I don't care. Maybe I read into shows more than I should, but that's what makes them fun and I can't wait to do it again when I watch the revival with my mom over Thanksgiving break, and I recommend that you do the same.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
