Find Your Truth

It's not until we find what makes us feel truly alive that we really start living.

You know that feeling that you get when you're doing what you truly love to do and it feels like you are exactly where you need to be doing exactly what you are meant to be doing? Maybe you feel this way when you're taking gorgeous photos, or styling clothes, or writing, or maybe you feel alive when you're working with little kids. Whatever it is, this is your truth. Your truth is what you know above all things to be constant and true; to make you feel like you're really living.

Some people seem to be born knowing exactly what they are here for. We see them every day at work and in our regular lives. They are doing exactly what they love to do with vigor and they are visibly excited about their work or their hobbies. Sure, these people are lucky. They found their truth, or passion, early in life, but for most of us, it takes a little more than waking up one morning and deciding that this is what we love and are meant to do.

If you're like me, you've most likely gone through life a little jealous of those people who seem to know exactly who they are. I've spent a good portion of my life flip-flopping back and forth between different career aspirations and hobbies that all either seemed to never pan out like I hoped they would, or I just lost interest. This is because none of those things were my truth. I wasn't exactly passionate about any of the things I thought would be fun for the time being.

It wasn't until I sat down one night and realized that I wasn't listening to myself, just the version of myself I presented to the world. When we step back and really come to terms with who we actually are, we discover what we really love to do. Maybe you love photography or running or writing, the point is that there are so many different things out there for us to discover, and it's up to us to explore all of those things to find what makes us feel alive.

So go, explore. Take as many chances as possible and find what makes you feel truly alive. Do as many things as possible, read as many books as you have time for, make time for taking small adventures and walking new paths, because when you finally find your truth you will be SO glad you did.

Run after whatever makes you feel truly and wholly alive. Chase it with everything you have. Try new things and grab at every new adventure within your reach because you never know what truths you may discover within it, and when you find your truth, grab it and embrace it wildly and with your whole being, because our truths are what save us from the world.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
